Worlds 2022: Evil Geniuses scores a perfect game against G2 Esports to keep NA’s hopes alive

EG are one-third of the way there.

The day of Group B started in the best way possible for every NA and LCS fan in the house as Evil Geniuses swept past G2 Esports to keep their tournament hopes alive. That win was EG's first of the group stage and they will be able to make it two-for-two when they play JD Gaming in a bit.

That loss now puts G2 in a perilous position as they are currently tied with EG at 1-3. If EG were to win their following game against JD, the pressure will be on G2 as their next match is against DWG.KIA. Given how badly DWG defeated them during the first round-robin, G2 will be looking to take revenge against one of their greatest rivals.

Much like Cloud9's victory over Fnatic yesterday, EG's statement win against G2 was much-needed for the squad. From the draft onwards, EG looked the more composed and collected of the two. This was reflected in the team composition with EG knowing exactly what they need to do and when they need to do it. With G2 drafting a more teamfight-oriented lineup, EG's draft was able to move and pick off G2 in small skirmishes while keeping themselves at a safe distance.

G2 ended the game with just two kills, one drake, and one outer turret to their name. Props will go to Sergen "BrokenBlade"Çelik who made the most of the team's opportunities, of which there were very little of. EG did extremely well at being able to keep G2 at arm's length while still getting kills and objectives.

While many will speculate that G2 didn't play well, credit must go to EG as they played a near-flawless game. Three players on the team had perfect KDAs with the likes of Muhammed "Kaori" Hasan Şentürsteppinged up for the team when it mattered most. His Lucian was always on point with his flashes, being able to snipe out a retreating G2 member on numerous occasions.

Of course, he was backed up by a great supporting cast like Kacper "Inspired" Słoma and Philippe "Vulcan" Laflamme on Hecarim and Nami respectively. Inspired notched nine assists to go with his three kills while Vulcan managed 14 assists and one death, which was the result of diving G2's bottom outer turret to secure the team's first two kills of the game.

EG's fates are currently in their own hands in their following match against JD. If they were to win, they will be one step closer to forcing potential tiebreakers. However, if they do lose, they will be out of Worlds.
