LCS EU Super-Week: MVPs and Plays of the Week

d75cdbd440a5cae047cb1682ccfa63698658a4e6689afcb048d47610c3.jpeg

Note that these aren't necessarily the top players statistically, but those who had the most impact for their team.

Bot-Lane Duo:

1ST: Rekkles and YelloWstar

Could it really be anyone else? Unkilled in three games and finishing the week with an incredible combined score 33-7-77, there is no doubt that the new Fnatic duo-lane not only lived up to the hype, but exceeded it. It seems that Jinx is a must ban against Fnatic as Rekkles went 26-0-20 on her across three games, and YelloWstar proved the diversity of his champion pool by playing four different supports to great effect (Annie, Thresh, Leona and Lulu).

This duo looks like they might just be the most dominant pairing in Europe if they continue on this trend. #GetRekked indeed.

Stats:

Rekkles

Total Score: 32-3-26    KDA: 19.3   Average CS: 334.75   Best Champion: Jinx

YelloWstar

Total Score: 1-4-51    KDA: 13   Average CS: 20.75   Best Champion: Thresh

2nd: Mr.RalleZ and Migxa (Supa Hot Crew)

A duo which has done nothing but impress, their synergy is obvious and they seem to have an uncanny knack for scoring first bloods on the opposition. Watch out for their Lucian and Thresh.

3rd: Celevar and Vander (ROCCAT)

Solid and dependable, the ROCCAT dual lane was excellent when it mattered. Even when heavily pressured by Supa Hot Crew, they kept their cool and came out on top, and against Alliance they came up big.

Top Lane:

1ST: Darien

The king of trolls is back and better than ever, with some incredible performances in the first week. Darien’s stand-out play on Warwick secured two victories for Gambit, going a combined 7-1-19 in two games and absolutely terrorizing Copenhagen Wolves and Milenium across the map – it even drew a ban from Supa Hot Crew, much to Darien and the crowd’s amusement (seen right).

Even when he wasn’t on the werewolf, Darien’s impact was felt, and his Shyvana was a constant menace in the game versus Supa Hot Crew. It’s hard to argue with a man who builds Iceborn Gauntlet on Shyvana and makes it work – Darien is this week’s top lane MVP.

Stats:

Total Score: 12-8-31    KDA: 5.375   Average CS: 265.5   Best Champion: Warwick

2nd: Xaxus (ROCCAT)

With no deaths in two games and solid play across all four, Xaxus was a force for ROCCAT this week. His Malphite was of note for its excellent synergy with Overpow's Pantheon.

3rd: sOAZ (Fnatic)

sOAZ did it all this week, playing an excellent game on Trundle and a pair of solid performances on Renekton. His strong laning helped Fnatic go undefeated.

Jungler:

1ST: Jankos

Although it was a week full of strong performances by junglers, Jankos stands head and shoulders above the rest of the pack this week by making the clutch plays when it mattered most. He dominated as Elise and Evelynn, not only setting up plenty of kills across the map but playing confidently enough to buy damage items such as a Deathcap – and making it work. His play on Evelynn in particular was devastating and had Milenium on the run for most of the game.

His incredible highlight-reel Lee Sin play against Alliance to Dragon’s Rage Tabzz back into his team is certainly a top moment from the week, and is just one of the things that made Jankos the MVP junlger for the debut of the EU LCS.

Stats:

Total Score: 14-8-21    KDA: 4.375   Average CS: 165.5   Best Champion: Elise

2nd: Diamondprox (Gambit Gaming)

Its hard to argue with Diamond's numbers, as he went  8-3-35 on Lee Sin in three games. As usual, his ganks were devastating, and he controlled the map well.

3rd: Svenskeren (SK Gaming)

Despite the fact that he died (a lot), Svenskeren proved he is still a top level jungler, making clutch steals on Baron with Lee Sin and going off on Elise. Solid play despite his penchant for over-agression.

Middle Lane:

1ST: Overpow

Whether it was on Riven, Gragas, or even Pantheon, Overpow was certainly one of the key play-makers for ROCCAT. Consistent in lane and coming up with big plays in the late game, his coordination with his team, especially Xaxus, was impressive. His Pantheon Grand Skyfalls (aka Man-Drops) were on point versus Supa Hot Crew and his combo with Xaxus’ Malphite proved to be the difference maker in a game that started out in SHC’s favor.

His impressive play on Kayle during the promotion caused him to draw bans all week, giving ROCCAT a little more wiggle room during the picks and bans phase.

While his performance wasn’t necessarily as flashy as some other mid-laners, his patient style and clutch moments proved to be what ROCCAT needed to pull out the victories. Watch out for Overpow in the weeks to come; he’s a player who might just surprise you.

Stats:

Total Score: 16-10-12    KDA: 2.8   Average CS: 303.25   Best Champion: Pantheon

2nd: Kerp (Milenium)

Moving from top to mid seems to have been a perfect decision for Kerp, as he has proven to be one of the most talented players in Europe. His Leblanc was especially impressive as he bursted the carries of SK into submission.

3rd: xPeke (Fnatic)

xPeke has high expectations whenever he plays, and although he wasn't as dazzling as he has been in the past, his Gragas and Oriana were top notch.

Plays of the Week:

1) KABOOM! Rekkles and YelloWstar escape Gambit with two kills in a 3v2

The week got off to a blazing start with the game between Fnatic and Gambit, and it didn’t take long for Rekkles and YelloWstar to show off their skills. An excellent engage by YelloWstar quickly went south as Diamond showed up with murder in his eyes.

And yet, an incredible two man stun by YelloWstar’s Annie followed by Rekkles firing Jinx’s Super Mega Death Rocket into Genja and Edward instantly destroyed the Gambit dual lane and gave Rekkles the necessary speed with Get Excited! to escape Diamond's clutches. Despite Diamond’s best efforts, both Rekkles and YelloWstar managed to escape with slivers of health and two kills under their belt, thanks to excellent coordination, some clutch Flashes and a brilliant Barrier bait by the Fnatic bot-lane.

2) Jankos Lee-Swerve

In a play that caused Joe Miller’s voice to crack like a teenager’s, ROCCAT jungler Jankos pulled off one of the great Lee Sin plays in the final moments versus Alliance, all but securing the victory for his team.

After a failed engage by Alliance, ROCCAT had them on the run but it looked like most of the key targets would get away. Jankos had other plans, Safeguarding to a ward and landing a max range Sonic Wave/Resonating Strike on a fleeing Shook who was just unleashing a Vi Vault Breaker – the result was that Jankos flew past the Alliance team in a massive arc, allowing him to Flash mid-air and Dragon’s Rage Tabzz back into his team to kill the enemy carry with ease.

InSec, eat your heart out.

3) Cyanide Runs a Marathon to Steal Baron

Despite being kicked away by both Lee Sin and knocked back by Gragas, Cyanide never gives up in this play, running all the way from the bush near Wraiths to the Baron pit and Flashing over the wall just in time to Smite it out from under Alliance.

If persistence pays of then Cyanide hit the jackpot because he never gave up even when Alliance threw everything at him to prevent him from stealing the Baron. But Alliance learned a valuable lesson – Cyanide will not be denied.
