?She is a beloved community figure, she is the face of her organization, but she is also a talented and dedicated support player in the SEA scene - PixieBaby. The young support player chatted with Honcast.com in an exclusive interview about a wide variety of topics.
Jeralynn 'PixieBaby' Lee Wan Yee has been a part of the competitive HoN scene in South East Asia for almost two years now, time enough to gather a lot of experience and opinions. Honcast.com had the opportunity to talk to the captain of Invasion eSports touching on topics like her career, the experience that was the Garena Star League 2013, the life of a female gamer and her efforts in the scene and for the game.
Another aspect of your stint in the competitive scene is the obvious fact that you are a girl. How is it to be a woman in a scene that is mostly filled with men?
I don’t think it’s really different, to be honest. I mean I have loyal fans, very supportive fans that wish me luck and support me and my team on every step of the way. I also have haters, but when I just look at other accomplished players, it’s not a lot of difference there. I might be subjected to a bit more criticism, because some people have problems with a gaming girl, but I can easily deal with it. My fans make up for it.
From the outside looking in, it seems to be, that the SEA scene is a bit more populated with female gamers. What is your take on that?
I think you are right with that assessment. I believe that the SEA scene is ahead of the curve in that regard. We have a couple of all-female teams competing, we have females as GM’s or as clan representatives, it’s really cool when you see it like that. Unfortunately most do not step up and compete against the guys, like I do - I am sure that will come in the future though.
Do you get any negative comments from people that think you are just there for the looks? As sort of a advertising tool?
I sometimes get that, but I don’t really care. I don’t see it that way at all. I mean I do understand that I am used for marketing and advertising purposes and such, but that is not defining me. My team and I don’t just have the success that we have due to my looks. It’s ridiculous to think that. I am in the team, because I earned the spot through hard work, hard practice and dedicating a lot to this game.
I am a player first, that is all I can say to those guys that make these negative comments.
