The table started with Oboodi and Fred Goldberg battling neck and neck for the chip lead, with Oboodi having the slight advantage. Darren Elias and Dan Buzgon trailed in third and fourth, while Ricky Hale and Jin Hwang lagged behind in fifth and sixth.
The first elimination occurred after 11 hands when Oboodi raised to 34,000 first to act. Hale re-raised all-in from the cutoff to 2.08 million. The remaining players folded, and Hale was left with a dominated AcTs against the A-K of hearts held by Oboodi. The Td9s2d flop gave Hale hope, but that was quickly erased by a King of spades on the turn. The Jack of diamonds river failed to save Hale, and he was sent to the rail with $186,585.
Elias was the next player sent packing when his pocket Jacks ran into Oboodi’s pocket Kings. The young American walked home with $230,610 for his fifth place finish.
Former chipleaders Goldberg and Oboodi finally clashed when Oboodi raised the minimum 600,000 under the gun and Goldberg called in the big bling. The flop fell 9d7s6h and the players went to war. The action was on Oboodi as Goldberg had checked in the dark. Oboodi fired once again for 600,000. Goldberg immediately shipped in his entire stack, and Oboodi called and tabled the Ace-9 of hearts. Goldberg 10d9c left him with some hope, but the turn 7c and river Jc were of no avail and Goldberg was eliminated in fourth for $280,925. Dan Buzgon’s pockets sevens soon tangled with Jin Hwang’s AK of hearts. Though Buzgon had a slight preflop advantage, Hwang turned a Broadway straight and Buzgon departed with $335,433, leaving Oboodi and Hwang to battle headsup for the WPT Borgota Championship.
Going into headsup, Oboodi held a moderate chip lead with 23.19 million (57 big blinds) to Hwang’s 17.125 millon (42 big blinds.) On the final hand of the tournament, Oboodi limped the button for 500,000 and Hwang re-raised from the big bling to 1.25 million. Oboodi called and the two players saw a flop of 7s6s6c. The players checked through the flop, and a Js was revealed on the turn. Hwang checked to Oboodi, who bet 1.6 million. Hwang then check-raised all-in and Oboodi called. Hwang’s KcJh gave him two pair, but it was no match for the Qs2s flush for Oboodi. The river was simply overkill, as the 3 spades fell and Hwang was eliminated in second for $554,303. Oboodi was the last man standing, taking home $920,000 and the WPT Borgota Open Championship.
