Our favourite purple dragon returns as Toys For Bob announce a new Spyro title, Spyro: A Realm Beyond, at the Xbox Games Showcase.
The announcement trailer offered a glimpse of an evolved yet nostalgic Spyro, while teasing its fantasy setting and villain. Spyro: A Realm Beyond is currently set for release in Spring 2027.

What is the new Spyro game about?
The new Spyro title, A Realm Beyond, will be the next instalment in the long-running classic platforming series. Excitingly, it will mark the first original story entry since The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon in 2008, as the more recent Spyro Reignited Trilogy was a remake of the original three games.
Spyro’s roots date back to 1998, when the purple dragon became one of PlayStation’s iconic mascot characters. His return in a new generation has already generated significant excitement.
Spyro: A Realm Beyond currently has few details revealed about its story, but comments from the studio head (via Xbox Wire) have offered a glimpse of what to expect.
In this brand-new game, Spyro has been subtly reimagined. He retains a familiar design, but with an evolved appearance. The studio has given Spyro an older look, with an enhanced wingspan, suggesting improved flight capabilities and more aerial gameplay.
One of the key themes highlighted for the new Spyro title is greater freedom in exploration, both on the ground and in the air. The developers describe this as one of their biggest ambitions for the project.
“For now, I can tell you that our biggest ambition in Spyro: A Realm Beyond is to give the player the freedom and fantasy of dragon flight — to be able to take to the skies at a moment’s notice and make interesting and active decisions to flow through the spaces as you charge on the ground and now soar through the air. This is such a significant addition to the game, and we’ve built a whole world around that promise.”
More information about Spyro: A Realm Beyond is expected in the coming months. For now, the game is set to launch in Spring 2027 for platforms PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
