A Disney extraction shooter might be in the works.
Epic Games and Disney are partnering up to develop a new extraction shooter similar to Arc Raiders, according to a recent report by Bloomberg. The outlet claims that the new game will feature various characters from Disney franchises battling it out until they reach an extraction point.
Is Disney making a new extraction shooter game?
Disney is reportedly making a new extraction shooter game focused on showcasing its own properties as playable characters, according to Bloomberg. The new video game is described to be a “shooting game along the lines of Embark Studios' hit Arc Raiders, but with Disney characters battling enemies until they can reach an extraction point.”
The untitled extraction game is said to be in the works at Epic Games. This lines up with an earlier 2024 deal between both Disney and Epic, which saw the former company invest a US$1.5 billion stake in Epic Games. At the time, both companies revealed plans to create “an all-new games and entertainment universe that will further expand the reach of beloved Disney stories and experiences.”
This partnership was announced with confirmation that characters from existing Disney franchises like Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Avatar would coexist in a shared universe. While several characters from this franchise can already be seen together in Fortnite, it appears that their crossovers won’t be limited to the multiplayer game alone.
Has Disney confirmed the new extraction shooter yet?
The Bloomberg report states that this deal is expected to result in “at least” two more video games. However, Epic’s senior director of global also provided comment in the report, saying that the news is “not reflective of the ambitions of the Disney collaboration. We are building a new games and entertainment universe of Disney experiences.”
Markham continued: “Epic's timelines are aggressive and always have been. We've heavily moved developers onto projects with releases approaching, while smaller prototyping teams are working on further-off projects.”
More than 1,000 jobs were recently cut at Epic Games, and Bloomberg reports that several of the laid off employees had been working on these unannounced Disney games. These layoffs reportedly raised “concerns from three former workers that people assigned to work on the Disney collaboration will be asked to adhere to an unrealistic schedule.”
As of the time of writing, neither Epic nor Disney have confirmed the existence of this upcoming title.
