An alleged Kingdom Hearts Missing Link leak has fans questioning everything they thought they knew about the cancelled game.
Kingdom Hearts Missing Link may have been cancelled last year, but the mobile game's story has unexpectedly returned to the spotlight after an alleged opening cinematic began circulating online.
The purported footage, which reportedly first surfaced on 4chan before spreading across YouTube, X, Reddit, and other platforms, has not been authenticated by Square Enix. Even so, Kingdom Hearts fans have wasted little time picking apart every frame, debating everything from possible Kingdom Hearts 4 connections to whether Missing Link deserves another chance in a different form.

The alleged footage, which runs for nearly five minutes, appears to depict Keyblade wielders battling Heartless before transitioning to scenes set in Scala ad Caelum, alongside imagery which many fans believe to be connected to the more realistic world introduced in Kingdom Hearts 4. Many players were also surprised by what appeared to be a far more ambitious project than they had expected from a cancelled mobile title.
While some questioned whether the footage could have been fabricated, others argued the amount of Kingdom Hearts lore, recurring locations and familiar character designs made it difficult to dismiss outright. Square Enix has not publicly commented on the video's authenticity.

One of the biggest talking points wasn't whether the footage was genuine, but what it could mean for Kingdom Hearts IV if it was. One of the earliest theories centred around a newer character named Sigurd, with several fans believing the alleged opening finally lent weight to speculation surrounding the mysterious character being in Kingdom Hearts IV.
On Reddit, people had much to say about the alleged leaked intro video.
"I guess this fully confirms that the dude in the recent KH4 trailer is 100% Sigurd. It was highly speculated from the similar colour scheme of the cloths, but wasn’t confirmed," Reddit user Arcade_Theatre wrote. Others were less convinced the apparent reveal actually answered much. "Not that it changes anything. We don't know sh** about Sigurd," Sea_Anxiety_5596 replied.
Beyond individual characters, many players believed the footage suggested Missing Link was intended to play a much bigger role in the series than previously thought. Several pointed to the game's GPS-based gameplay, arguing that it finally appeared to fit into Kingdom Hearts IV's exploration of Quadratum and "unreality."
"I think the intro is making it clear that the AR gameplay was in fact meant to be integrated with all the Quadratum and 'unreality' buildup for KH4," Chespineapple wrote. They added, “Believe it or not, the Kingdom Hearts spin-off apparently had a lore excuse to have Pokemon Go mechanics.” Phos-Lux shared a similar view, writing, "That would make sense. Everything in KH is usually canon."
What do fans think about Kingdom Hearts Missing Link?
Beyond the lore implications, the alleged footage also left many players trying to make sense of Missing Link's unusual opening. Several commenters were surprised by the sight of Keyblade wielders in astronaut-like suits, with some saying it looked more like one of Kingdom Hearts' cryptic secret endings than the introduction to a mobile game.
"The 1st half is the intro is the most 'what is nomura cooking'-thing ever," Reddit user UnknownChaser wrote, while Boshikuro said, "The first half feels like a secret ending from KH1 and KH2."
As the discussion continued, many players said the footage made Missing Link look far more ambitious than they had expected, praising its original settings, cinematic presentation and overall production values.
"Everything about this, from the keyblade astronauts to the design of the Scala ad Caelum inhabitants scratches a very specific Final Fantasy itch for me," FKDotFitzgerald wrote. "I hope they absorb most of this into KH4."
Reddit user raccooncoffee shared a similar view, saying the original Kingdom Hearts locations shown in the footage were compelling enough that “…you could make the entire game about Quadratum, Scala ad Caelum, and leftover Radiant Garden lore... and it could easily be a new FF!”
What do fans want for Kingdom Hearts Missing Link?
The renewed interest quickly turned into a discussion about how Missing Link's story could still be preserved following its cancellation. Blazingscourge hoped "the cancelled stuff finds its place in KH4," while n__o__ suggested the story could instead return as "another 0.2-like experience for IV. Or even a movie."
Others preferred adapting the game's story outside of the main series. Widower800 argued "A novel or manga or even some kind of Back Cover style cutscene movie NEEDS to happen," while bingus-cat-lover said "A novel or manga abt kingdom hearts could go hard while waitin for kh4."
Several commenters also pointed to Tetsuya Nomura's previous statement that the team would look for another way to tell Missing Link's story. Reddit user Darandle wrote, "I believe Nomura said he was going to find a way to reveal the major info from Missing Link since it was cancelled."
Whether the alleged footage is ultimately authenticated or not, it has reignited interest in a project many fans had already written off. For much of the Kingdom Hearts community, the discussion has shifted from what Missing Link was, to what its story could still become.
