Lenovo announces SteamOS-powered Legion Go 2 handheld at CES 2026

The Legion Go 2 is ready to run SteamOS straight out of the box this June.

Lenovo has officially confirmed a SteamOS version of the Legion Go 2 at CES 2026, offering a new way to experience its premium handheld gaming PC without Windows. The SteamOS-powered model is set to launch in June, with prices starting at US$1,199.

The new version of the Legion Go 2 will ship with SteamOS pre-installed

Lenovo's announcement follows the Legion Go 2’s original release in October 2025 and makes the SteamOS variant an official, out-of-the-box option, rather than a manual install. Lenovo says the device will ship with SteamOS pre-installed, removing the need to interact with the Windows desktop or go through the process of installing Linux-based alternatives. Menu buttons have also been adjusted to better match SteamOS-style layouts commonly found on Valve’s own handhelds.

Hardware remains unchanged from the Windows version. The Legion Go 2 features an 8.8-inch OLED display with a 1,920x1,200 resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and variable refresh rate support. Lenovo is offering two configurations of the device: a base model powered by AMD’s Ryzen Z2 processor with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, and a higher-end version using the Ryzen Z2 Extreme with up to 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD.

Beyond the operating system, the rest of the Legion Go 2’s design carries over intact. The handheld includes detachable controllers, a built-in kickstand, a microSD card slot, and a 74Wh battery. At 2.2 lbs, it retains the larger form factor seen on the Windows model.

Lenovo says SteamOS has been optimised to make full use of the Legion Go 2’s hardware, though the internal specifications remain identical across both operating system options. Existing Legion Go 2 owners can still install SteamOS themselves, but the new model removes that extra setup step for new buyers.

The SteamOS-powered Legion Go 2 will launch at a higher starting price than its Windows counterpart, beginning at US$1,199. Lenovo has not yet confirmed pricing for the Ryzen Z2 Extreme configuration.

The Legion Go 2, powered by SteamOS, is expected to be available in June 2026, with more details on final configurations and availability expected closer to release.
