Another day, another Persona 5 spin-off.
SEGA and ATLUS are celebrating Persona’s 30th anniversary as a franchise this year, marking the occasion with a mystery announcement on 8 January on its official website. As per the official Fitness Boxing Twitter/X account, we might already know what that announcement is set to reveal: an all-new Persona 5 Fitness Boxing game.
This week, the account teased that the Phantom Thieves is taking up a new kind of training in an image post:
Are we getting a Persona 5 Fitness Boxing game?
If you’re a fan of both the Fitness Boxing and Persona game franchises, boy do we have some good news for you. For those unfamiliar, Fitness Boxing is a series of rhythm-based Nintendo Switch video games that have players use the Joy-Con controllers to mimic punching and dodging in rhythm-based workouts. The series is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.
This week, the series’ official social media account teased a crossover with the Persona game franchise. The account posted an image depicting texts exchanged between unknown members of the Phantom Thieves, with the same artstyle as ATLUS’ acclaimed 2016 RPG Persona 5.
According to a Google translation of the text messages, the first text reads “What are you preparing for?” The reply then reads “Hehehe, this time I’m going to train everyone in a slightly different way than usual. As a Phantom Thief, physical strength is essential!”
It’s very likely that the series is teasing a crossover Persona 5 game, akin to its previous crossover titles featuring the Vocaloid idol Hatsune Miku and manga series Fist of the North Star. This would be the first installment in the series since 2024’s Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer.
Persona 5 is no stranger to spin-offs, having received four spin-off titles since its release in 2016: Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, Persona 5 Strikers, Persona 5 Tactica, and Persona 5: The Phantom X. The game also received a re-release with new content in 2019, entitled Persona 5 Royal.
ATLUS and SEGA have confirmed that an impending announcement regarding the Persona franchise is coming on 8 January, 2025, via its new 30th anniversary website. Chances are high that we’ll learn more about this Fitness Boxing tease then.
