96 developers are now working on Cyberpunk 2, while The Witcher IV commands over 400 at CD Projekt RED.
CD Projekt RED has officially announced that Cyberpunk 2 has entered the pre-production phase. The confirmation came as part of the company’s latest financial report for 2025. The long-anticipated sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, previously codenamed Project Orion, has now progressed beyond its conceptual stage. Although the game's final title may change, CD Projekt is currently referring to it publicly as Cyberpunk 2.
The development milestone was also shared via the studio’s investor relations account on X:
Cyberpunk 2 kicks off with 96 developers onboard
In the presentation, the studio outlined how resources are currently being distributed across various IPs. At present, 96 developers are working on Cyberpunk 2, while over 400 are dedicated to The Witcher IV. CD Projekt RED clarified that the new Cyberpunk title will follow its Witcher projects as the studio’s next major focus.
A recent interview with Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the tabletop RPG that Cyberpunk 2077 is based on, has also revealed that Cyberpunk 2 will feature at least one more location aside from Night city.
Despite the growing buzz, fans may have to wait a while. In the presentation, CD Projekt RED’s leadership explained that their typical development cycle from pre-production to full release spans four to five years. This suggests Cyberpunk 2 is still several years away from launch.
CD Projekt celebrates major milestones for Cyberpunk and The Witcher
While much of the report focused on what is next, CD Projekt also highlighted significant milestones from its existing titles. As of 28 May, 2025, the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC has sold over 10 million copies.
Meanwhile, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt has reached another major achievement, with more than 60 million copies sold globally since its release. This milestone comes as the game marks its ten-year anniversary, confirming its place as one of the most successful RPGs of all time.
Earlier this year, the studio also revealed progress on several other titles, including The Witcher IV, a remake of The Witcher, and Project Hadar, an original IP. In addition, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is set to release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, extending the game’s reach to a new generation of hardware.
