Ubisoft has shown off new gameplay for Anno 117: Pax Romana, the latest installment in the real-time strategy Anno game franchise. Anno 117: Pax Romana features the franchise’s earliest historical setting by far, taking players all the way back to Ancient Rome, where they will begin building up a civilisation spanning Roman and Celtic-based regions.

Ubisoft shows off gameplay showcase for Anno 117: Pax Romana
Ubisoft has finally shown off gameplay for Anno 117: Pax Romana, a city-building real-time strategy game that acts as a sequel to 2019’s Anno 1800. This time around, players will step into the sandals of a governor appointed by the Emperor of Rome, who is tasked with building up provinces in two regions: Latium, which is inspired by Rome, and Albion, which is inspired by the Celtic nations.
Players can start in either Latium or Albion, and begin building up a humble settlement into a grand civilisation that spans both regions. The elements of these settlements will be designed by the player’s hand, of course, including classic Roman architectural icons like colosseums.
However, players will also be tasked with making decisions that shape their provinces in different ways. They can choose to be aggressive and build up a military, or choose to go a more diplomatic route and work without governors. Players can even go up against the Emperor of Rome, though that seems a tad risky, to say the least.
Ubisoft is planning to show off more gameplay from Anno 117: Pax Romana during a 21 May, 2025 Twitch stream with its development team. The game is launching later this year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
