This week, we’re taking a break from Elden Ring against our will.
The final week of June is packed with new game releases, though most of them appear to be remasters of classics like Beyond Good & Evil and Luigi’s Mansion 2. We wouldn’t blame you if you’re still playing through Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree this week, however, especially since the expansion appears to be significantly harder than players expected it to be. If you need a wholesome break from those rage-inducing boss fights, we’ve got you covered.
What are we playing?
Beyond Good & Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition (June 25) remasters the classic Ubisoft game with up to 4K gameplay running at 60fps, and a few bonus features with content tied to its sequel. You know, the sequel that was announced back in 2008 and… still isn’t out yet? Yes, that one.
Two more classic franchises return this week: Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble (June 25) and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD (June 27). Banana Rumble is Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s sequel to the classic 2001 platform game Super Monkey Ball, whereas Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD remasters the original Nintendo 3DS game with updated visuals for the Switch.
Lastly, SpyxAnya: Operation Memories (June 28) is a game adaptation of the smash hit anime/manga series SpyxFamily, with a new high-stakes mission for Anya to complete: she has to create a photo journal. To do this, she’ll have to get the help of her adopted parents - the secret agent Loid and assassin Yor - to collect memories wherever she goes. Voice actors from the SpyxFamily anime returned to voice their characters in this game, so fans should keep an eye out.
What are we watching?
A Quiet Place: Day One, the prequel to the titular horror series, hits theatres this week. Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn star as two New York City citizens who happen to get caught in the early stages of an alien invasion. These aliens have ultrasonic hearing, so the duo will have to work together to escape the invasion quietly - in a city known for being extremely loud.
One of the best dramedies of recent memory returns for a third season this week. Hulu’s The Bear Season 3 premieres with all 10 episodes on June 27, bringing us back to the extremely chaotic life of Carmy Berzatto, a young chef who’s about to debut an all-new restaurant called The Bear in Chicago. This season, Carmy is going to do whatever it takes to get his restaurant a Michelin star, potentially to the detriment of his staff, the people he loves, and the restaurant itself.
Lastly, Wit Studio’s DC Comics adaptation Suicide Squad Isekai hits Max, Hulu and Disney+ on June 27. The anime follows the titular Suicide Squad, comprising Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, King Shark, Katana and Rick Flag, as they are flung into a world of magic and monsters. The nano bombs in their head will detonate within 72 hours if they don’t return to Earth, so they’re going to have to fight their way back or die trying.
