Xtreme Gaming qualify for TI 2025 after dominant run through the Chinese regional qualifier

Xtreme Gaming qualified for TI 2025 after losing just one game throughout the entire Chinese regional qualifier.

Chinese Dota 2 stalwarts Xtreme Gaming will be the region's second representative in The International (TI) 2025 after they won the tournament's Chinese regional qualifier with a 3-0 sweep over  Yakult Brothers in the grand finals on Thursday (12 June).

With a roster featuring some of the biggest names in the Chinese Dota 2 scene alongside solid supporting pieces–namely, Wang “Ame” Chunyu, Hongcheng “Xm” Guo, Jing “Xxs” Lin, Zixing “XinQ” Zhao, and Wilson “poloson” Koh Chin–it's not at all surprising to see Xtreme qualify for TI 2025.

While China remains far removed from being one of the top regions in the global Dota 2 scene, the likes of Xtreme, Yakult, and All Gamers Global (formerly Team Tidebound) continued striving to keep the region relevant this year. After All Gamers Global became one of the eight teams to receive a direct invite to TI 2025, the regional qualifier spot for China was then left up for grabs between Yakult and Xtreme.

However, the field for TI 2025's Chinese regional qualifier was shaken up shortly before it kicked off as many of the region's most decorated players returned to also attempt to qualify for this year's Dota 2 world championship tournament. These included the likes of Yao “Somnus丶M” Lu with Azure Ray and Liangzhi “KAKA” Hu with Vici Gaming.

But even with the sudden surge in competition, Xtreme and Yakult still emerged as the final two teams in the fight for a spot in TI 2025.

Xtreme's side of the bracket featured stiff competition in the form of both Vici and Azure Ray, though they made quick work of their opponents in back-to-back sweeps to advance to the upper bracket finals. On the other hand, Yakult flexed over much weaker teams in Team Curtain and Tearlaments to get their first meeting with Xtreme for the first spot in the grand finals.

Yakult won the opening game of the upper bracket finals, but Xtreme still emerged victorious in a 2-1 reverse sweep to get one step closer to qualifying for TI 2025. Yakult then defeated Tearlaments in three games at the lower bracket finals to earn a rematch with Xtreme in the grand finals.

While Yakult managed to win one game versus Xtreme in the upper bracket finals, their second showdown in the grand finals wasn't even close. Xtreme started the series with a 38-minute stomp in game one, slowly choked out Yakult in 51 minutes in game two, then completed the sweep with a 28-minute rout in game three.

With their victory in the Chinese regional qualifier, Xtreme will join Eastern European qualifier winner Aurora Gaming and South American qualifier winner HEROIC among the teams to have successfully fought for their way to a spot in TI 2025. The North American regional qualifier is also set to conclude soon.

This year's TI regional qualifiers will take place across two weeks of competition from 4 to 17 June, with three batches of two qualifiers each being played at a time. The final set of regional qualifiers will be for Southeast Asia and Western Europe, which will be hosted from 13 to 17 June and with two teams from each qualifier advancing to this year's Dota 2 world championship tournament.

The winners of the TI 2025 regional qualifiers will join eight directly-invited teams in this year's Dota 2 world championship tournament. The direct invite teams include defending TI champions Team Liquid, Tundra Esports, Team Falcons, and Gaimin Gladiators from Western Europe; PARIVISION, BetBoom Team, and  Team Spirit from Eastern Europe; as well as All Gamers Global from China.
