OG.LATAM parted ways with DarkMago just over a month after the roster were signed by OG.
Iconic esports organisation OG has made a significant change to its South American Dota 2 roster,
OG.LATAM, parting ways with mid laner
Gonzalo “DarkMago” Herrera.
His replacement, yet to be announced, is expected to join the squad just days before the two biggest qualifiers in the competitive Dota 2 calendar: the qualifiers for The International (TI) 2025, the game's annual world championship, and the lucrative Esports World Cup (EWC) 2025's Dota 2 tournament.
OG shared the announcement of DarkMago's departure on their official social media accounts, stating, “Today, we bid farewell to DarkMago. He is now free to receive proposals from other teams, and we can't wait to see him compete again in the future!”
DarkMago and the rest of OG.LATAM’s squad were signed by the OG just a month ago, on 25 April, after successfully qualifying for the ongoing DreamLeague Season 26 under the stack name Perrito Panzón. The signing marked OG’s first entry into the South American Dota 2 scene, though the team did field players from the region in the past, such as Adrian “Wisper” Cespedes Dobles and
Enzo “Timado” Gianoli.
The South American division was even positioned by the organisation’s CEO as the main squad, favored over OG’s European roster due to its stronger results and pedigree.
However, their debut was underwhelming. OG.LATAM finished in 15th-16th place at DreamLeague Season 26, tied in bottom place with fellow South American team Edge. It was another disappointing result in OG’s recent competitive run.
OG.LATAM are now looking to improve the squad by replacing DarkMago with prodigy Santiago “TaiLung” Aguero, with the organisation lauded their new player as “an exciting young prospect from Peru, impressing many by reaching top 100 EU despite being in Peru on 180 ping.”
With the South American TI 2025 qualifier set to begin on 4 June, just a week away, OG.LATAM will need to integrate their new mid laner quickly. The team will face tough competition from regional powerhouses such as HEROIC and Edge for a coveted spot at the world championship.
Adding to the pressure, the Esports World Cup Dota 2 South American regional qualifier is scheduled for 11 June. OG.LATAM, as well as many other top teams, will be heading towards a back-to-back demanding and high-stakes qualifier series.
OG.LATAM’s current Dota 2 roster:
Hector Antonio “K1” Rodriguez
Santiago “TaiLung” Aguero
Mario “ILICH-” Romero
Yelstin “elmisho” Verde
Joel “MoOz” Mori
- Juan David "Vintage" Angulo Nicho (coach)
