beastcoast and OG exit top 8 at The International 2022

The last day in the Suntec Arena at The International 2022 is all about elimination series and finding the two teams that will join Team Secret and Tundra Esports for the Finals Weekend.

A total of four elimination series are on the schedule for the fourth and last day in the Suntec Arena from Singapore. Four teams will end their TI11 run today and the first to exit were beastcoast and OG.

The day started with just Jean "Chris Luck" Salazar stepping onto the stage for beastcoast, as the rest of his team, along with their coach, are in hotel isolation rooms since they tested positive for covid. Even so, the SA team was able to start the series with a huge win over PSG.LGD.

beastcoastvsPSG.LGD

PSG.LGD looked to establish the early lead on the back of laning stage dominance with an Undying-Mirana support duo and a cary Drow Ranger, but their plan got countered with a last pick Storm Spirit from beastcoast. With Storm able to jump into the backlines to control and kill the Drow, and also with a perfect game from their carry Faceless Void, the SA team put the Chinese juggernaut one game away from elimination.

However, the second game featured an offlane Axe for Zhang "Faith_bian" Ruida, who has absolutely demolished beastcoast to push the series to a third game. A six-minute Vanguard and a 10-minute Blink Dagger translated into a 20/4/10 K/D/A for Faith_bian, who also made a big impact for his team in game three on Brewmaster to keep PSG.LGD alive in the lower bracket.

OGvsTeam Liquid

According to stats man Ben "Noxville" Steenhuisen, OG and Team Liquid is the tied 3rd most frequent pro team matchup of the 2021/22 season, which only means that these are two of the teams at TI11 who know each other the most.

With that in mind, it came down more to a mental battle affair, favouring the team with more resilience and better focus. The veteran lineup of Team Liquid had by far done a better job at that that the OG youngsters, who made their TI debut this year.

In game one, Liquid had the upper hand with a good mix of team fight control and powerful right-click damage between a safe lane Drow and a mid-lane Lina and managed to outpace OG’s Slark-Leshrac draft.

Headed into the second game, OG went for an offlane Huskar revealed in the first phase of the draft and got completely countered by a Bloodseeker carry last pick from Team Liquid. OG did not have any save tools for their Huskar and although they in theory had plenty of burst damage, they couldn’t find the advantageous engagements for the entire game, thus getting sent packing by Team Liquid.

While Team Liquid and PSG.LGD will fight another lower bracket round today in the Suntec Arena, beastcoast and OG bow out with a top 8 at TI11 and $435,041 for their run.
