ESL One Summer 2021 is unfolding at a very high pace, with multiple series being played daily on two different streams. Started only this past Wednesday, the tournament has reached the finals day and only three teams are left to battle for the title.
Played in a double elimination bracket, the tournament has already waved goodbye to nine teams. After Secret and Team Liquid’s early exit, Team Unique and Tundra Esports followed suit and have also been eliminated in the bottom four after losing their first lower bracket brawl.
Team Nigma and AS Monaco Gambit, two teams that would have taken this event as a final test before TI10 closed qualifiers, were the next to be knocked out of the contention, both being eliminated in the top 8. ASM.Gambit’s tournament run was ended by Vikin.gg, who took them down with a clean 2-0 sweep, while Team Nigma had once again went down at the hands of OG in a thriller series that went up to the decisive game three.
While OG survived one more round in the lower bracket series by taking down Quincy Crew with a mid lane Hoodwink and a carry Axe, Vikin.gg were bested 2-0 by Alliance. The latter was also OG’s bane as they marched through the elimination series up to the finals, where they will be put to a test today, June 20 by T1.
In the upper bracket series, Virtus.pro mounted a full redemption campaign. Returning home from the AniMajor with no series won on LAN, Virtus.pro took down OG, Alliance and T1 at ESL One Summer 2021 to secure a top two finish. Their adversaries for the best-of-five grand finals will be decided in the lower bracket finals between Alliance and T1.
