The group leaders managed to jump straight to the upper bracket semi-finals of the main event while the two eliminated teams left empty-handed after failing to achieve a single victory.

A hectic and jam-packed day at the MDL Changsha Major culminated with some unexpected results as the groups were rounded out after 15 intense Bo2 series. The standings helped to determine who went into the main event with a head start and who left early without a chance to perform on the main stage.

Group A

Team Secret continued their hot streak from yesterday into today, defeating both Invictus Gaming and iG Vitality, making their mark as the leaders of the group. The two Chinese teams, however, were unable to improve on their performances from the first day and will have to battle it out in the unforgiving lower bracket.

OG made a significant improvement from the first day, winning both their series on the second day, sitting comfortably in the middle of the group. Their win against Mineski denied the SEA team the top seed of the group. Nevertheless, both teams now begin their journey on the main stage in the first round of the upper bracket.

Infamous, the only representatives of the South American region, failed to nab a single victory in any of their matches in the group stages. An early exit means the team has no chance to collect DPC points at one of the last Majors of the season.

Group B

Vici Gaming presented fans with perhaps the biggest upset of the group stages, knocking the undefeated PSG.LGD off their pedestal. They are now the only Chinese team starting in the upper bracket of the main event. The latter not only lost their top spot but surprisingly fell to the lower bracket after losing two out of three series today. They will join Newbee, who improved compared to the first day and tied in two of the three series they played.

VGJ.Storm was the other team who beat PSG.LGD, tying in their other two series and climbing up to 2nd place in the group. Joining them in the first round of the upper bracket will be TNC Pro Team, who survived the group stages with mostly tied series.

Vega Squadron, the only representatives of the CIS region, will be leaving the event early after an abysmal performance. Similar to Infamous, they failed to win a single game despite showing signs of dominance in the early stages of some of their games.

Playoffs

  • Ten-team Double Elimination
  • First round of the Lower Bracket is Bo1
  • All other matches are Bo3

The main event kicks off tomorrow, 16th May, with both the first and second rounds of the upper brackets being played in one day, starting with the series between VGJ.Storm and OG at 10:00 CST/4:00 CEST.
