Cloud9 disbands their entire Dota 2 roster

After about five months of struggle and inconsistency, the Danish Cloud9 roster has decided to disband for the greater good.

The five Danes of Cloud9 have decided to part ways with the organization as well as with each other as they announce the disbandment of their Dota 2 roster, just three days before the end of the Post-Kiev Shuffle's drop period. The news came as a shock to Danish fans and those all over the world alike, as it seems to be the last straw for Cloud9 after a chain of disappointing and subpar results. Cloud9 announced the news on their website as well as on their Twitter account.

Cloud9's disbanded roster:

Denmark Marcus 'Ace' Hoelgaard
Denmark Jon '13abyKnight' Andersen
Denmark Mikki 'HeStEJoE-RoTTeN' Mørch Junget
Denmark Danny 'NoiA' Mørch Junget
Denmark Christoffer 'Ryze' Borregaard Winther

At the start of this year, Cloud9 announced their return to the Dota 2 scene after about a year of absence with the news that they were picking up the Imperial and former Danish Bears roster, who were looking very hot, having finished fourth at DreamLeague Season 6, as well as being champions of Royal Arena Season 1 and ProDota Cup Europe's 12th edition. They were described by Cloud9 CEO Jack Etienne as, “young talent that I believe, if supported correctly, can establish themselves as a solid team." However, to the surprise of both the organization and the team, the Danes were never able to quite realise that potential and have failed to make any mark on the international level ever since, with their biggest achievement being a second-place finish at the World Electronic Sports Games. Having recently failed at qualifying for both Mr.Cat Invitational as well as Summit 7, Cloud9 decided to call it a day, after the squad realized that their internal issues were a huge obstacle in their road to the International.

BabyKnight shared some words about this situation:

When I started playing with Danish Bears back in June of 2016 I didn’t expect us to come this far. We improved a lot early on after joining Cloud9 and it showed in our results, but lately we were not able to continue that progress. We formed as a group of friends and the issues we encountered have not changed that, but we began being plagued by unresolved issues in our games. After discussing as a team whether there were any good long-term solutions, we have decided it is best to part ways. I want to thank Cloud9 and their fans for supporting us and giving us a chance to compete at this level.

BabyKnight may have left Cloud9 as a player, but Cloud9 is certainly not leaving him anytime soon, as he will continue to remain under the Cloud9 banner as a streamer alongside WehSing 'SingSing' Yuen. With the add period of the Post-Kiev shuffle starting in just three days, and it is expected that many strong contenders for the International will emerge, Cloud9 might be looking at a chance to pick up another fresh roster going into the seventh edition of the biggest eSports tournament of the world - The International.
