OG stomps EG to reach a record fourth Major Grand Final

The usual suspects did not disappoint and deservedly head into the grand final where they are expected to meet a greater challenge in the face of home crowd favourtes Virtus.Pro.

A match-up that could just as easily be the final of the Kiev Major, OG vs EG has turned into one of the most captivating contests in Western Dota recently. The two of the most successful Dota 2 teams recently crossed paths in the semis of the Boston Major with OG coming on top after what looked as a rather effortless manner, contrary to the hype before the game. EG, however, took their revenge a month later in a heated 3-2 Dota Pit League Season 5 Final

Game One

EG immediately tried to impair OG with bans on illusion heroes such as Alchemist and Naga Siren, but the green team seized the opportunity to pick Terrorblade instead. As a return, EG put their faith in Spectre, Queen of Pain and Magnus picks.

The game was lackluster in terms of action in the very beginning, as both teams settled for farming. Overall, OG had a better laning stage and started to build their advantage from there. Terrorblade was well enabled by his supports and gradually started taking down towers one by one.

Apart from the occasional picks, OG won the first serious team fight after about 24 minutes of play and not long after their eyes were set on the high ground towers. OG continued to keep the game in their hands and siege the enemy base. Apart from a perfectly timed Reverse Polarity from Saahil "Universe" Arora at a high ground defense around the 47th minute, EG were unable to turn things around in their favour. Soon all three tiers of barracks were razed to the ground and OG took a well-deserved 1-0 lead.

Game Two

OG demonstrated that they are not too dependent on illusion play. Both teams' drafts seemed solid, but it was EG who was dominating their opponents early - 13 minutes into the game the score was 11-0 in favour of the NA team. The Green Dream did not despair and got themselves back in the game only a minute after a great counter-initiation in the mid lane ending up with four kills under their belts.

EG's lineup seemingly was better at the tower razing department with Death Prophet in the lineup, but it was OG who had cleared all tier twos and established map control after 23 minutes of play.

At this point of the game, the clashes between the two teams were centered on securing Roshan. The coveted Aegis, however, would fall into the hands of OG a lot more often. Coming on top in the most team fights, OG laid a gradual siege in a similar to the first game manner. Without Terrorblade on their side, though, they had to rely on turning numbers advantage into successful pushes. The NA team did not shy away from clashes outside their base, but found themselves on the losing side a lot more often.

Around the 48th minute EG barely held a push, but at the cost of the mid set of barracks. The writing was on the wall, but EG did not give up. A relentless OG never ceased the siege and despite the valiant efforts from EG, they were finally broken down after an hour of play.

The final will start at 17:00 CEST and will pit Virtus.Pro versus OG.
