Wings Gaming move into the semi-finals at ESL One Genting

The final series of Day 2 at ESL One Genting would see Wings Gaming going head to head against Execration. After DC beat them in round 2, Wings would be looking to pick themselves up and get into the final day of the event. XctN were fresh off of beating Unity and looking to continue on their high.

Game One

A great start for XctN would see them claim first blood with just two minutes passed along and two more kills in quick succession following this. The aggression from the Dire’s bottom lane was proving very tough for Wings to deal with, as Joshua 'Owa' Del Serna on the Spirit Breaker rotated constantly to mid and Djardel 'DJ' Mampusti on the Dark Seer found easy farm and kills. With eight minutes passed, XctN were 7-0 to the good in the score line and seemed to be in complete control of the game.

Fifteen minutes in, Wings were finally looking like they were making a showing on the map. As they dropped three from the Dire line-up, before they took down the tier one and two in the bottom lane and the tier one mid lane.

With almost thirty minutes passed, Wings looked to take Roshan down – but XctN were not going to let it go easily. With the fight that followed, Wings came out on top and claimed the aegis along with a 21-18 score line. With the aegis in hand, the Radiant pushed through mid and dropped the barracks, before moving bottom lane and doing the same.

As Wings Gaming took down the final barracks, the “GG” was thrown out by Execration, giving Wings game one of the series.

Game Two

Game two would be make or break for Execration, as a loss would see them exit the tournament, but a win would take the series to game three – but a very quick first blood for Wings might have spelled the end from the start. For the ten next minutes the game slowed down to both teams farming and no kills were seen and it was only after this that Wings claimed the second kill of the game.

This game proceeded a lot slower than the previous one, with eighteen minutes passed, the score line was 5-1 to Wings, who also controlled the map via towers taken. Before twenty minutes had passed, the Radiant team claimed an aegis, followed by kills on three of XtcN’s line-up and a tier two mid tower.

Wings now looked to push high ground and dropped the tier three tower top lane before vacating the Dire’s base. A fantastic play from DJ would see him steal the aegis – followed by a mistake from Li 'iceice' Peng on Earthshaker with a wasted Echo Slam, which seemed to give XctN a window of opportunity. But an immediate error in the usage of Eclipse from Fernando 'Nando' Mendoza ruined their chance at pushing out too far.

Nearly forty minutes passed before Wings were able to find another great fight and dropped the melee barracks. The game looked completely in the bag for Wings as they moved in bottom lane to drop the tier three before heading top where they claimed mega creeps and forced out the GG.

Wings Gaming took the series 2-0 and would move forward into the semi-finals of ESL ONE Genting.
