ESL One Genting 2017: Groups are drawn

Eight teams, from which five are Boston Major attendees, are going to fight in the first weekend of January 2017 at ESL One Genting.

Held in Malaysia at the Genting Highlands resort, ESL One Genting will run from 6th to 8th of January with a GSL group stage ahead of the single elimination bracket. From the eight teams entering the battle only four will advance to the finals. Group A features one of the directly invited teams, namely Fnatic, but the Malaysian squad is far from being the same team that received ESL One’s direct invite more than two months ago. Left only with Mushi and Ohaiyo after failing to qualify to the Boston Major, Fnatic is yet to announce their roster. In their first matchup at ESL One Genting, Fnatic will face Virtus Pro, the CIS team that participated at the Boston Major from a heavy favorite seat.

Group A:

Execration, who lost their spot at the Boston Major due to visa issues, will seek redemption in January at ESL One Genting. The Filipino team will face Digital Chaos, who placed fourth in Boston and runners up at TI6. Another team in search of former glory, Wings Gaming is also placed in Group B and will face a yet to be determined Malaysian team in their first matchup. The Malaysian qualifiers will take place this weekend, December 17-18.

Group B:

ESL One Genting is not only the first premiere event of 2017 but it is also the first major event to be played on the new 7.00 patch. There’s nearly three weeks left for all the participants to figure out their strategies and learn all the juking paths on the reworked Dota 2 map, or even more important for some, to figure out a roster to play with.
