Spring Major to be held in Kiev, Ukraine

Dota 2 Andreea “divushka” Esanu

The second and last Major ahead of the International 7 will be held from April 20 to 23rd in Kiev, Ukraine.

The time for a CIS Major has come. Valve just officially announced Kiev, Ukraine, as the location for their Spring Major. PGL, who has produced both Manila and the current Boston Major, will be in charge for the Kiev Major. Keep in mind that the 2017 competitive season features only two Majors, down from three that the previous season had.

The race for the Kiev Major will start in the first week of March 2017 with the open qualifiers followed on March 10-13 by regional qualifiers.  With the Spring 2017 Major, Valve will divide for the first time the American qualifiers into two separate regions, North and South, while the European qualifiers will feature a dedicated CIS competition.

  • Andriy "violin" ,
1 I am so happy and proud for my country! Hope it would be the best Major EVER !!! 2 This is Kyiv not Kiev!!! 3 This is Ukraine Major not CIS major
    • "Booncz" ,
      In English it's Kiev
    • Ste "holypepsi" A ,
Kiev (/ˈkiːɛf, -ɛv/) or Kyiv (Ukrainian: Київ [ˈkɪjiu̯] ( listen); Russian: Киев [ˈkʲiɪf]) is the capital and largest city of Ukraine, located in the north central part of the country on the Dnieper River.
  • "Booncz" ,
Nice, don't wanna be too negative, but I think that bringing teams from smaller regions, will do no good, they will win games anyway, plus they in these days if you pick up 16 best team in the world they all can win any given event so you a denying a spot for potential winner with a team that will loose everything...(as example, this Major 14 teams had team strength to win, everybody except faceless and MVP)
  • Andrew "Mac_" O ,
Happy to see the CIS region get a Major. Just got back from attending the Boston Major, and I imagine the Kiev crowd will be just as rowdy, if not more rowdy, than us Americans. Should be a great atmosphere. Also happy to see PGL continuing to produce the Majors. They do a fantastic job with production and really make the event memorable. On a sad note, we should all say our goodbyes to the Mystic Staff trophy. Trophy now "Ancient" status.
    • Rexonial "Dancingwar" Bebb ,
Wait, Mystic staff is for winter major right? is the major not there anymore and there will only be 2 major and 1 TI every year? :(
      • "Booncz" ,
yes due to Chinese schedule there's no winter Major, there's no point in making 3rd major, because Chinese people have holiday that time of the year, plus it's reshuffle time for Chinese teams since the beginning of competitive dota...so it would be only western Major, they tried it last year, they moved it to China and gave it 3 MIL prizepool, but Chinese just didn't care anyway

always appreciated the fact when there was not much tournament between ti1-ti4 period, starladder was the tournament to watch outside of TI. very happy to see Kiev finally got to be a major.
