The Boston Major: LGD Gaming top group C

Did anyone call for Major upsets? Day two of the Boston Major group stage delivers them as compLexity Gaming denied Evil Geniuses any chance at winning their group.

Group C and group D are to be decided on this second and last day of the Boston Major group stage and half way through the day, the leaders are already known. It’s LGD Gaming for Group C and OG in group D.

The very first series of the day was an NA showdown between compLexity Gaming and Evil Geniuses that brought the first big upset. coL came to Boston via regional qualifiers and although they’ve won that, they took a hard hit when the new carry, Justin 'justin' Rosselle decided to drop from the roster. Forced to add a last minute substitute, compLexity are definitely one of the underdogs at this first Major of the 2017 competitive season but despite that, with their first series they showed they are more than ready to face the big names.

“This is what matters, to beat them on LAN and not in scrims” said coL’s mid laner Antonio 'canceL^^' Mihai in the winner's interview after their match up versus Evil Geniuses. But despite their amazing two last games versus EG, coL lost the battle for  first place in group C in the winners finals against LGD Gaming.

The Chinese are another pleasant surprise given their storyline coming to the Boston Major.  The young squad, built by LGD around Lu 'Maybe' Yao in the post-TI 6 shuffle, finished third in the Chinese qualifiers and lost their spot for the Boston Major. However, the heart-breaking Visa issues faced by Execration who couldn’t honor their direct invite at the event, opened another door for LGD. Coming as Execration replacements to the Boston Major, LGD Gaming are proving everyone that Valve was right to choose them when deciding who to bring in Boston at the last moment. After a fast and clean execution of their pushing strategies in the series versus Faceless, LGD Gaming surprised compLexity with a mid lane Rubick for Maybe and a support Jakiro in the second game of the series to claim the first place of the group C.

The Boston Major group stage day two continues with EG and coL still fighting for the second and third place in the group, and some can presumably foresee a rematch between the two NA teams.
