ESL signalling their Australian ambition

ESL has signaled their interest in bringing a major eSports tournament to the Oceania region.

Australia, home to beaches, Kangaroos and an ESL tournament...? It seems that there is a possibility for an ESL event to take place in the Oceania region after ESL Australia twitted a survey titled "Would you attend an Australian Mega Event Survey? An eSports survey."

The surveyed asked a variety of things from interest in eSports to the preferred tournament logistics such as dates and locations. This is one of the few times that a major eSports tournament organizer has signaled an interest in the Oceania region.

Regarding this survey, Gosugamers reached out to ESL to find out more about their plans. According to ESL Australia, there are currently no plans for a mega event in Australia and the survey results will be used as a basis for future plans in the region; when asked about the threshold before seriously considering an event, it was explained that ESL is looking for the number of potential ticket holders being in the thousands and that the survey's response is just a factor for consideration and not the sole consideration.

The decision to enter into the Australian eSports scene most likely started with ESL's partnership with the Australian Cyber League (now known as ESL Australia) in late 2015. Having hosted two other events under the ESL banner, the survey highlights ESL Australia's plans for larger and larger events in the region. More information about ESL Australia can be found on their Twitter or Facebook.
