DotaPit S3 ends with EG on top; new season announced

North American team Evil Geniuses has emerged victorious in the grand final of Dota Pit Season 3 against Cloud 9 to bring home over $126,056 in cash. Cloud 9 on the other hand, will cash $57,056 for their second place finish in the tournament.

While the season has been long with the constant delays during the playoffs, EG wasted no time in disposing their nemesis in the grand final; winning 3-0 with an one game advantage coming into the grand final. In both their games today, EG utilized Sumail's Queen of Pain and Fear's Clinkz to carry them to victory. Post losing the first game and on the brink of losing the series, Cloud 9 picked a classic Axe - Io line-up to win their lanes but it was to no avail.

The end of Dota Pit Season 3 also signifies the start of the short wait to The International 5. With exception to BTS Americas, no more tournaments will host TI caliber teams up till the groupstage of The International 5.

Prize pool distribution:

1. United States Evil Geniuses - $126,056
2. Europe Cloud 9 - $57,056
3. Russia Virtus.Pro - $39,807
4. Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas - $21,230
5. Europe Team Secret - $10,615
6. Russia HellRaisers - $10,615

This third season of Dota Pit has cause quite the stir in the Dota 2 scene. First announced on their website on January 9, Dota Pit put up a base prize pool of $80,000. Boasting a Compendium, great bundles and top notch production, the community managed to push the prize pool past their final stretch goal; up to $265,378.

However, many weren't happy about the major delay in the scheduling of the playoffs. The delay of the much anticipated winner bracket semis series between Secret and Evil Geniuses was a let down, leading to the eventual pull out of Team Secret because the tournament was cutting real close to The International 5.

During the pull out, Secret manager Matthew 'Cyborgmatt' Bailey told GosuGamers, "Due to numerous delays with this season of Dota Pit we have unfortunately reached a stage where we have prioritise our focus on preparing for The International."

Ukrainian caster Vitali 'v1lat' Volochai has also fired shots at Dota Pit (or rather at online tournaments in general) for not being exciting and ability to pull in a huge prize pool without much effort to host LAN. In his aptly named blog post, Volochai stated that "zero damns were given" during the broadcast of the loser bracket final between Cloud 9 and Virtus.Pro.

Despite all the ups and downs, the organizers of Dota Pit excitedly announced at the end of the grand final broadcast that their upcoming season on 31st March 2016 will be featuring a LAN final in Croatia.

GosuGamers have reached out to Dota Pit organisers for their the juicy scoop of the next season.
