EP finishes 2nd in ESCC after playing 14 games in a day

Despite playing 14 games throughout the day, The International 5 China qualifier third placer Energy Pacemaker was unable to overcome Tongfu in the grand final who clinched the top spot in ESCC.

ESCC, a tournament allegedly hosted by the Anshan prefecture government, was hosted exclusively for tier two Chinese teams who have failed to make it to The International this year. The tournament began with an eight team round robin where the eventual champion TongFu finishing on top.

For placing first in the groupstage, TongFu chose Victory O Lord as their first round opponent in the playoffs and took a comfortable 2-0 win against them. Victory O Lord finished fourth in the tournament, one position short of making it into the cash, after they crashed out in their series against Newbee.Y in the loser bracket.

TongFu went on to go against Energy Pacemaker in the winner bracket final and they came back from a 1-0 deficit to secure their spot in the grand final. As a result, Energy Pacemaker had to play Newbee.Y in the loser bracket final and that series ended in another three-game series where EP made a comeback from a 1-0 deficit.

With a total of nine games played so far, EP marched into the grand final exhausted but they had to go through another full best-of-five series against TongFu. Unfortunately, their resilience did not see fruitation as TongFu rolled through the in the deciding game with Storm Spirit and Juggernaut as their core.

Prize pool distribution:

1. China TongFu - $40,298
2. China Energy Pacemaker - $16,119
3. China Newbee.Y - $8,059
