The Swedish redemption – Alliance and NiP in MLG finals

Having a long summer vacation to contemplate at, given the fact that both Swedish squads failed to qualify for The International 5, Ninja in Pyjamas and Alliance gathered their inner strength to pull on a show for this jDL-MLG Pro League’s LAN and now they are the last two remaining teams in the competition for the championship title.

The third day in Austin at X Games brought the sun lights upon Sweden, NiP and Alliance being the two finalists for this season’s Championships, both teams having a strong run throughout the entire event. A title under their belt would mean a lot for any of these two teams since none of them managed to grab any LAN trophy this year.

Last time when we’ve seen Alliance on the podium was at the last year’s WCA LAN, in October 2014 when they placed third and since then they’ve been struggling to rebuild, undergoing multiple roster changes that hindered their path in tournaments and most important, prevented them to attend the most wanted event of the year, The International. However, in Austin they’ve shown that they left the TI 5 “drama” behind, being undefeated in the group stage and advancing in the playoffs were they faced Fnatic. Not an easy task at all considering what show Mushi and his squad put on in their elimination game versus Mousesports. Despite the fact that Fnatic got to play in the three game series two signature heroes for Mushi, Outworld Devourer and Shadow Fiend, with which he crushed the laning phase, reminding us all that he is a living Dota 2 legend, Alliance did not allow Fnatic to capitalize on their huge advantage in gold and experience and they carefully protected Loda in all three games played to finally win the series with a 2:1 score. As a direct result, Fnatic will have to face London Conspiracy in the consolidation final in order to determine the 3rd and the 4th placers for jD-MLG Pro League Season 2.

Looking at the other finalist team we discover that Ninja in Pyjamas share the story to some extend with Alliance as they did not manage to win any single LAN since their creation post TI4, placing on 3rd position at StarLadder XI, Major all Stars and jDL-MLG Season 1. Making into the finals this time around brought them already the highest position on a LAN event and winning it will be their first title or should we say the first medal.

The last day of jD-MLG Pro League Season 2 will open with the BO3 third place decider featuring Fnatic and London Conspiracy. The confrontation between these two teams will be an interesting match to watch since they both prove great comeback capabilities in their previous games, Fnatic have the most epic comeback fight (versus Mouz) of the tournament in their pockets while LC is the team who created the biggest surprise by eliminating the home crowd favorites, Evil Geniuses .

Day 3 Schedule:

18:00 CEST Fnatic vs London Conspiracy

20:00 CEST Alliance vs NiP

All the matches will be covered by the joinDOTA team on MLG.tv
