Team Unknown wins TI5 NA open qualifiers

Peruvian Team Unknown.xiu comes up aces against a stacked 751 teams, earning a spot over favored teams like Summer's Rift in the International 5 NA open qualifiers

Unknown cruised through the qualifiers, beating out some well established teams like Summer's Rift and Stay Free (tralf, yawar). During the Bo3 finals of Valve’s new format they threw down another South American team, eGamersX, 2-1 in dominant fashion. The relatively unheard of team consists of two ex Union Gaming players who are mostly known for a variety of cheating allegations, the severest of which being their stream sniping scandal in the Dota 2 Canada cup last year which earned them bans in multiple tournaments.

As is always the case with dota, the peruvian dream came with a hint of drama. In their 2-1 semi-final clash with qualifier favorites Summer’s Rift, the peruvians appeared to have switched players. However, after some intervention by admin faceit_mikey, the matter was cleared up.

Mikey’s statement; "NEL players confirmed that he is switching accounts frequently. Unknown team stated the reason is the different configuration he has on both steam accounts, thats all. Its definitely a weird case, but nothing worth of disqualifying a team."

As for Summer’s Rift’s role in their elimination, the decision to kick MiracleChipmunk in favor of Dragonfist prooved to be as disastrous as ky.xy’s aegis denial at TI3. The new mid laner for the team performed, according to some, underwhelmingly and Brax’s forced removal to the offlane didn’t seem to suit them.

The Peruvian outfit have earned their spot in the NA main qualifiers of Dota2’s annual megafest, set to begin on the 25th of May, where the competition is significantly stiffer. The main qualifiers feature favorites The perenial TI Terminator I mean mouzsports, fellow South American’s Not Today and the newly reformed NAR.
