G-League groups drawn, all western teams in Group B

Groups have been drawn for the G-League with group A being a massively stacked Asian group, and all westerners going into group B. Amongst them are the recent MLG champions Speed Gaming.

The very last qualifier match of the G-League was played earlier today, it was the finals of Group F where TongFu went up against Team 3rd and won 2-0. TongFu thus take the tenth and last spot of the G-League group stage. Right after that, the groups were drawn live.

Invictus and LGD.international who both played a great tournament about a year ago, faced off earlier this year in the grand finals where Invictus eventually came out on top. This was the last major victory for the old TI2-roster of iG, after that they started to play inconsistently and lost a lot of games, eventually leading to the departure of ChuaN and Zhou and the addition of Hao and banana. These two finalists have been seeded into different groups, which can be seen in the table below.

Both western teams made it into group B while the third foreign team, Titan from Malaysia, got into group A. The first group is very similar to what the first group looked like last year, with the extra addition of a fifth team. DK was not in the group last year and neither was Titan but instead fellow Malaysian team MUFC participated there. The format is very much the same as last season and the only real change is that groups have been expanded with one slot each due to the western teams joining. The recent MLG champions Speed-Gaming will be there together with Fnatic. BOne7 is expected to be seen back on the team instead of Arteezy.

The top three of each group will make it into the single elimination group stages whose the top seed starts off in the semi finals. The prize pool is roughly $44,000 USD which is the same amount as last year. Back then it was a massive, but with the recent progression in prize pools it is now only average. The prestige, however, remains at a top level.
