Mineski secures home country win against Titan in GMPGL

After a ten-month season and a gruelling two-day finale, the GMPGL SEA champion has finally been crowned. AMD.Mineski bid the home crowd proud as they walk away as the champion, winning on the finals against Titan with the score of 2-0.

The playoffs started with Titan doing short work of day one hero Execration, winning two convincing games to put themselves into the upper bracket finals. Mineski, on the other hand, extended their winning streak against GNE.Dreamz to four (two from yesterday's PGF Grand Finals), setting up a rematch against Titan. It can be remembered that Titan dealt Mineski its only loss on the group stage.

Dreamz was able to employ their pushing strategy as they eliminated Execration, securing a guaranteed third place finish. The spotlight was on the upper bracket though, as Mineski pulled off an upset on the seemingly unbeatable Titan with the score of 2-1. The first two games were split between them, but Mineski showed class and poise as they masterfully executed an annoying splitpush on the decider match. The Naga Siren was a total nuisance, and Titan had no way to stop Mineski's split-push.

Titan proceeded to set-up a rematch with Mineski as they defeated Dreamz on the lower bracket finals. It didn't come easy though, as the Filipino team persisted by pushing with mass necronomicons. However, the Malaysians made good use of their lead and the farmed Crystal Maiden (Black King Bar, Diffusal Blade) to seal the game. Dreamz, with the loss, exits the tournament on an honorable third-place finish.

Mineski, advancing from the upper bracket, will start the grand finals with a one-game advantage. They started the first game sourly though, as they lost their carry in Weaver even before the creeps spawn. It was an action-pack game, with both teams trading kills all throughout. The Pinoy team reclaimed advantange after big plays from their Invoker and Clockwork. Despite the massive lead by Mineski though, Titan showed grit as they somehow held on and prevented the Filipinos from seizing a decisive advantage.

Mineski caught a big break on the 48-minute mark, catching both Luna and Night Stalker, both of which are not having any buyback available. The Malaysians suffered greatly because of that, and they found themselves losing two lanes of barracks. After a few attempts on the bottom lane, Mineski finally delivered the finishing blow, and the Malaysians called the GG not long after.

Mineski has won $5,000 (216,000~ PHP), while the runner-up team in Titan won a very decent $3,000 (130,000~ PHP). Dreamz won $2,000 (86,000~ PHP) from their third-place finish. The $10,000 prize pool is by far the biggest purse to be competed for in a Dota 2 tournament held in the Philippines. Coming a distant second is the PGF Summer Assembly held last May, which was won by NeoES.Orange (of which four of its five members are now playing for Titan) and had a prize pool of $1,850.

The GMPGL SEA Grand finals is the culmination to the ten month season of the Gigabyte Mineski Pro Gaming League. It had separate monthly tournaments for various SEA countries, and each team were able to accumulate points based on how they finish from each qualifier. This is the fifth year of the GMPGL.
