With the Swiss group stage for PGL Wallachia Season 1 complete, we take a look at the team and hero statistics for the sixteen teams that were involved.
The 2023-2024 Dota 2 season is rolling on, with the tournaments advancing pretty quickly. Riyadh Masters, which could very well be the highest prize pool Dota 2 tournament of the year based on last season, is only a month and a half away. The latest tournament to brace our screens in PGL Wallachia Season 1, which is the second tournament of the season to have a Swiss format for the group stage after Elite League.
The fascinating thing about PGL Wallachia is that the bottom 8 teams get eliminated after the group stage concludes. This isn’t something typically seen in tournaments, where half the playing field is wiped out before the playoffs. But it does put a lot more at stake in the group stage games, which makes them more interesting. Elite League also deployed the same format, although that didn’t feel as harsh as the ongoing tournament because Elite League was an online tournament, while PGL Wallachia is a LAN event in Bucharest.
A total of 79 games were played in order to finalize the 8 teams that moved on to the next stage of PGL Wallachia. The more games you win in a row, the fewer games you have to play to move ahead. This is the reason why teams that qualified the earliest or were eliminated the earliest have very few games to their name, while others which alternated between winning and losing have a lot more. Let’s take a look at the team and hero statistics for the tournament to get an idea of what to expect in the next stages. All data has been taken from datDota.

Most of the usual suspects have made the playoffs for PGL Wallachia. The one big surprise was BetBoom Team, who were the runners-up at ESL One Birmingham not too long ago, but could not get through the Swiss group stage format in Romania. As it stands, six of the seven Dota 2 regions are represented in the playoffs.
MENA – 1
China – 2
SEA – 1
WEU – 2
EEU – 1
SA – 1
The only region that failed to make it was NA (not a lot of surprises there). As this tournament ends, DreamLeague Season 23 will start right away. After that, there is a break for around five weeks before the Riyadh Masters, which is when we can expect the next Dota 2 patch to be released.
