6.75 and its effects: Hero statistics one month after

169 matches have been analyzed by Dota Academy since 5 October, the day after the inclusion of 6.75 changes to Dota 2. From these 169 matches between 5 October and 5 November, 86 are assigned to the Western European region, 47 to the SEA region, 48 to the CIS region, 32 to China, 35 to America and 40 to other parts of the world. The sum of this certainly higher than 169, but matches were assigned to multiple regions if the teams played intercontinentally. Thanks to Dota Academy for providing the raw statistics for everyone.

Most banned heroes
#HeroBans (max. 169)
1dark seer Dark Seer116
2templar assassin Templar Assassin96
3rubick Rubick87
4naga Naga Siren78
5chen Chen66
6tidehunter Tidehunter65

Nature's Prophet has disappeared from the top banned heroes alongside Lycanthrope. While Lycanthrope might be a bit over-nerfed, Nature's Prophet was sort of the we additional ban while we had six bans in the first banning phase. Now he is not frightening enough to be banned in the first four and often doesn't fit anyway anymore after the first picking phase.

#HeroPicks (max. 169)
1jakiro Jakiro89
2leshrac Leshrac78
3tidehunter Tidehunter70
4queen of pain Queen of Pain69
5rubick Rubick67
6batrider Batrider66

Where are Venomancer, Invoker and Morphling gone? Okay, Invoker and Morphling both have been nerfed with the 6.75 patch, so that was to be expected. Venomancer's downfall might have something to do with Jakiro's story of success. From zero to hero he goes with a single patch, suddenly becoming the most picked hero while not being over-buffed to let him become a must-ban-hero.

Most successful heroes (+/-)

1batrider Batrider40-26+14
2bounty hunter Bounty Hunter34-22+12
3dark seer Dark Seer25-13+12
4templar assassin Templar Assassin32-21+11
5night stalker Nightstalker11-4+7
6jakiro Jakiro48-41+7

It's probably the one story after The International: A slight buff has made the Batrider popular in the competitive scene all of a sudden. He was viable in DotA already, but just never found his way to the consecutive game. People complained about Batrider "feeling different" in Dota 2. All that is forgotten, as he accounted 14 more wins than losses in the one month after the 6.75 patch. One of his strengths is that he is used both as a solo mid and as a jungler, both roles have been filled by Batrider to a roughly equal amount in the last month. Bounty Hunter at the same time wasn't really buffed, but just fits so well into most strategies nowadays. Maybe we'll see him get banned more often in the future to eliminate his strategies?
Most successful heroes
(win%, at least 5 matches)
#HeroW-L% Win
1doom bringer Doom Bringer5-0100%
2night stalker Night Stalker11-473%
3omniknight Omniknight4-267%
4dark seer Dark Seer25-1366%
5sven Sven9-564%
6clinkz Clinkz7-464%

Doom Bringer is the only hero since 5 October to be played at least 5 times and never ending up with a loss. More impressive however is Night Stalker's record of 11 wins and 4 losses, managing to reach both "most successful heroes" statistics. This proves he's still a, literally, terrifying hero. Dark Seer also shows perfectly why it's good to keep him banned.

Least successful heroes (+/-)
#HeroW/L+/-
81lone druid Lone Druid9-14-5

84venomancer Venomancer21-28-7
85queen of pain Queen of Pain30-39-9
86sandking Sand King6-19-13

What has happened to Sand King? He's the worst performing hero in win-loss-difference and the second worst hero in winning percentage. He once was a great supporter, showing both his worth in stun-support and teamfight capability. However, recently things just don't look to work out well for him. He was played 24 times, but lost three-fourth of those games. Venomancer, the second-most picked hero is struggling a lot as well, having lost seven more games than won.

84ancient apparition Ancient Apparition2-625%
85lycanthrope Lycanthrope2-625%
86sandking Sand King6-1924%

Did Icefrog over-nerf Lycanthrope? Coming from being an almost must-ban hero at The International, limiting his wooding capacities has made him one of the least picked heroes. Only 7 matches of Lycanthrope are saved in the database of Dota Academy and Lycan even lost six of those games. He was only banned 22 times, that's less than 14% of the times. Teams realized he's not worth playing anymore and don't even bother banning him anymore.

Of course, all these statistics are just a snapshot. It's just the competitive scene, not the hundreds of thousands of casual gamers, and it's just the 169 games Dota Academy was able to put into the database for this month of gaming. The statistics are never perfect and shall give an overview. Dota 2 is about much more than single heroes, it's about the more than 5 million different team compositions you can pick with 93 heroes in the pool, and it's about the plays people are able to squeeze out of their heroes. Statistics, however, can give an overview about which heroes we over- or underestimate.

6leshrac Leshrac124

So while heroes like Invoker, Broodmother and Venomancer have descended to mid-tier heroes, the time to shine for Undying, Sven, Batrider, Bounty Hunter and Jakiro has come. Midst all this, we shouldn't underestimate the rough drop Morphling has seen. At The International, some people have said: "Not Morphling, not again, please!" It looks like the nerf has done exactly this. According to the Dota Academy Database, Morphling has not been picked up in a single of the 169 recorded competitive games since 5 October. He has only been banned 5 times. Poor Morphling.
