WCG - The Savior of E-sports?

The World Cyber Games announces a new league for the masses. With €152,000 (Euros) up for grabs.

The WCG has had its hands in e-sports for quite a while now. They have yet to let the community down and with another new project about to take off it is no wonder e-sports is spreading in a rather quick way. They now intend to release the Esports League Champions (ELC).

The WCG plans to adopt rules similar to the CGS

With certain leagues such as the Championship Gaming Series adopting regular sporting rules such as regular once a year seasons, paid contracts and bonuses for performing well. It does not surprise me that the WCG would decide to do the same when such an enticing trend seems to be gripping the entire e-sports scene.

€152,000 (Euros) + Country vs Country action

With €152,000 (Euros) to go between two games I expect to see showcase matches that will help put e-sports on the map. Sadly, only invited teams and players such as Fnatic will be able to participate in the first season. Later the ELC intends to incorporate its country vs country style. With qualifiers in select countries for everyone to participate in. Upon completion of the qualifiers the finalists will be flown to the TV studio on Stockholm, Sweden to compete in the finals on LIVE TV.
I strongly believe that for Esports to become more professional and therefore expand and grow its going to need more television, more tournaments and more emphasis on the players Star status. From what I have seen of the plans for the WCG ELC has focusing on all of these aspects and more.
- Sam Mathews, Fnatic.

LIVE streaming via TV studio in Stockholm

Yes that is right, a TV studio. A studio specifically designed with gamers in mind. The participants will compete throughout the day being filmed non-stop with a LIVE feed streaming over the internet for billions of viewers. Streaming will be provided by Octoshape who was signed due to their cutting edge technology in online broadcasting.

The new website will keep you coming back for more

Along with the release of the new league, the WCG is also releasing a new website that will keep the gamers coming back for more each day. With your own profiles, online events, media galleries and much more. Not to mention each team will have its own branding section. Where the team can reach out to fans and media alike.
