Benjamin James Baker speaks out about the performance of his team in the WC3L match versus mTw and other recent happenings.

DeMusliM started his career in October 2004 with team Landed, which shortly after was renamed AllTheRage. With this team he attended the WC3L Season X qualifier, but didn’t make it to the second round after losing in round 1 against Clan Go. In April 2006, the 18 year old Baker became part of the Serious Gaming team. He stayed with the Dutch organization for 15 months until July 2007, when he made the big step up to Four Kings. In the beginning of December 2007, DeMusliM left the Kings to join his current team ALTERNATE aTTax.
The departure from Four Kings is still a gruff point for Baker. When I asked him about it, Baker said he didn't really want to talk about it; that he felt that he wasn’t treated equally with the rest of the team. "I was friends with the team including members from the cs team but the management and i never saw eye to eye. I wasn't treated equally to the rest of the team."
- DeMusliM about his team
Unfortunately, he couldn't tell anything about possible new reinforcement.
In the first day of the WC3L, the youngsters of aTTax had to face the veterans of mTw.PokerRoom. Against all the odds, aTTax won more matches and captured the overall victory with a score of 3:2. Later, Baker explained why he didn’t play in the match versus mTw.PokerRoom. "For the last 10 days or so I’ve been suffering from flu, plus we had a NGL qualifier match going on at the same time which i played in. I didn't want to play bad given my physical condition in such an important match."
While the first points are collected, its still yet to be seen if they can compete with the title favorites. Baker is not putting the bar to high, and his goal for this WC3L season is to avoid relegation. "WC3L is really hard at the moment. I’m hoping we avoid relegation and anything atm is classed as a bonus - the boys from starcoma worked their asses off and i really don't want to ruin it for them."
ESWC 2007 - DeMusliM made it to the second groupstageDeMusliM is the only non-German Speaking player of the Warcraft 3 team aTTax. However, this doesn’t seem to form any problem for the British Human player, He answered, while laughing, "For me the players speaking German isn't a problem as of yet ! Although it does get annoying at times, I will teach them to speak English."
NGL-Two Qualifier
Baker is optimistic about the NGL-Two qualifier, where aTTax made it to the second already so far. aTTax achieved a victory over QPool.wc3, as result of a nice all-kill by the Human himself, in the first round of the qualification tournament. "I love the NGL system, I don't feel a weakness in bo1 especially as surprise strats work and weaknesses on maps don't apply too strongly to human. (only ud on tr/tm and orc on GW) So for me personally i believe the qualifier could go smoothly, and I have great players to fall back on if I fail ! and vice versa of course."
With the quality of aTTax, one should be able to surmise that Baker is not fearing any NGL-Two opponent. However, the truth is something really different: "There are a few teams that have appeared strong in the qualifier - names such as Lyra I will remember ( Vyfer raped rob for instance ), so fun to come !"
Next in order for aTTax in the NGL-Two qualifier is ARIANA-Gaming.WC3. As my final question I asked how Baker prepared against this quite unknown team, where anything else but a win for aTTaX would raise a couple of eyebrows. "I take whatever happens on the chin, we (my clan mates and I) discuss which races we're strongest against and which we're weakest vs (NONE!). We then take it upon ourselves who will go first and which maps you would most like to keep for yourselves. I prepare by keeping a cool head, I don't ready strategies but I look at my opponents and read their style and try to find holes in their play. For me this works best given the bo1 format which I love !"
We would like to thank Mister Baker for his time and wish him good luck in his upcoming matches.
