After an astonishing and lengthy career, Insomnia officially quits his time in the gaming scene.
- in the last year – year and a half I mostly played because I had no other source of income, he writes in a goodbye letter.
LEGEND. As rumoured, Insomnia leaves SK-Gaming. The news hit the German magazines as well, and now SK-Gaming finally spills the beans along with a lengthy good-bye letter from Insomnia.
"I was getting bored of it"
Zdravko "Insomnia" Georgiev's dream when he was younger was to play video games all day, and later on to be a progamer when seeing the South Korean StarCraft progaming scene. Insomnia played StarCraft a lot and reached quite high, but it wasn't until WarCraft 3 where he saw the potential of becoming a progamer.
- I was getting closer and closer to achieving my dream, when finally a year later the moment has come. SK and Intel Korea have come to an agreement to send 4 SK players to Korea and form team Intel, to compete in the Korean leagues. Me, MadFrog, Heman and Dominator were the lucky ones, who were able to experience the South Korean progaming dream, he writes.
"I had no other source of income"
And after winning tournament after tournament, with the World Cyber Games 2003 trophy as the peak of his career, Insomnia started to grow tired of the game.
- I kept on practicing and attending tournaments and made numerous high place finishes, but slowly tournament after tournament, day after day I was losing my interest in War3, I was getting bored of it. I will be honest with you guys, in the last year – year and a half I mostly played because I had no other source of income.
And so, on November 15th 2007, he sat down and talked it over with the SK-Gaming management.
- Exactly 5 years after I joined SK I decided to tell everyone in the team how I felt and that I wanted to quit even tho I still had a running contract, he says.
"I certainly don’t regret my decision"
Insomnia tells us in his letter that after leaving the Warcraft scene, he has already had time to do so much things he didn't do before.
- I am doing different kinds of sports 4 times a week now. Yesterday I went snowboarding, had so much fun. I also resumed my university studies and started socializing with my friends a lot more, writes a very happy Insomnia.
With trophies from World Cyber Games, WC3L and GameGune topped with numerous top positions, Insomnia will never be forgotten.
