ThomasG: I love being the underdog

ThomasG has been interviewed by Fragster.de prior to the upcoming Stars War event in Shanghai.

He has not been able to practice with his Stars War team mate Grubby due to the TopGamer tournament. He has been practicing with Happy, but ThomasG does not expect to face an Undead in China.

- "In general since SC2 beta came out it is almost impossible to find decent practice - when I finally find someone it is a lower tier player which is better than nothing, but it will not help me all too much vs. players like the ones I meet in China. Ladder seems completely useless too, very weak players and huge delay," says ThomasG to Fragster.de.

He admits the European team is an underdog, and he is loving it.

- "Being the underdog is my favourite role. Honestly, I think noone expects me to win anything against the Asian teams at all, so even if I don't, it's not quite the biggest disappointment. But any win is a huge victory for me, so basically what the underdog role does is that I am free to take all the chances I want, play any sort of risky all-in strategy if that is what I desire, because there is no pressure on me," says the Dane, and adds that there is a great chance to make upsets when matches are best of one.

ThomasG is locked against Lyn in the StarsWar team match, which in his own opinion is one of the very best players in the world. The fact that Lyn was a stand-in due to Moon's marriage plans does not seem to bother him that much, other than not playing mirror.

- "I would have preferred to play vs Moon because it is a mirror match - in the past I have not been too happy about mirror matches but lately I dont mind them and there is a bigger random factor which would make it easier to make an upset. I feel Lyn is a more stable player and I will really need to play flawlessly to be able to beat him. Overall though, I think Lyn and Moon are some of the very best players in the world and no matter which of them would play they would be an enormous challenge for our team. But I've tried to prepare for the match since I've known it for some time and hopefully it will pay off," he says.

ThomasG flies down there tonight, Wednesday, to tourist in Shanghai before the event starts on April 16.
