The German, whose main race is Night Elf, chose to play Undead to take on the Swede in a mirror match.
- I didn't expect to face his Undead, so it was a bit surprising, but I personally think it increased my chances to win, so it felt good, said DowaQ to GosuGamers.
Outcreeping Reignofdark early on
Game one on Echo Isles went pretty cookie cutter, with DowaQ showcasing the oldschool Lich and Ghouls opening while Reignofdark countering with Death Knight and Crypt Fiends.
DowaQ came off to a good start and was able to outcreep his opponent to reach level tree on his hero while Reignofdark still had his Death Knight on level one.
- This gave me an opportunity to really take control over the map pretty quickly, and it allowed me to get an expansion up and running in time to then putting enough pressure on him, explained DowaQ.
Twisted Meadows, map chosen for the second game, ended in similar fashion with DowaQ outcreeping Reignofdark early and getting a big advantage early on.
- Then it was just a matter of taking the right fights during tier 3, said DowaQ.
Russian strength in Group A
The recently sacked Evil Geniuses player Dmitriy "Happy" Kostin took a convincing win against Marcus "Thorzain" Eklöf in Group A thus placing himself in a good position.
In Group B, Nikolaus "SonKiE" Cassidy beat Thomas "ThomasG" Glinski while qualifier favorite Pedro "LucifroN" Moreno Durán outplayed Mousesports player Dennis "HasuObs" Schneider.
