New information regarding the upcoming WC3L season has been published, as we see major differences in the tournament format and the match system.
Groupstage and playoffs
Overall, the new season will be open for a total amount of 24 teams - double the amount that has previously been able to take part. The twenty-four teams will first off be divided into four groups, while winners advance and runner-ups/third placers will have to fight for the last spots in the playoffs bracket that await in the second phase. In the playoffs, eight teams will play in a double elimination tree.
Ace match to prevent tie's
The second piece of interesting information is that the matches will once again be played in another system. Two 1on1's will be played out, where both matches will consist of two games, followed by a 2on2 game also played in two games. To divide possible tied scores, an Ace match has been implemented (see picture to the right).
Last but not least, a satisfying €3.000 will be in place for the tournament, while no offline finals are planned.
