Look-back on the half-finished WC3L

The WC3L Season 13 is a very interesting one with SK and BeT totally dominating and a struggling MYM that still is ranked 4th although they got only a winning-percentage of 33% in overall matches. Half of the season is finished and therefore it's about time to have a look-back on the happenings.

SK-Gaming and Beijing Esports Team are dominating the league. While SK is ranked 1st, BeT is following them on the 2nd rank. Both got a 6-0 record in matches and especially SK Gaming is doing very well. They not only won all their matches, they are also 6 points ahead the 2nd – BeT. With an amazing start – three 5-0 victories in a row – and another 5-0 result at playday six against PGS, the defending champions are doing even better than expected.

BeT on the other hand also is undefeated, but they did not do as good as their competitor SK. 6-0 in matches but only 21 points on their account. This might look average compared to SK, but it's for sure a great achievement. They won three times with 3-2 and three times with 4-1.

If the season would end right now, these two teams would be the ones to directly qualify for the offline finals, but who are currently fighting for the online playoff spots (3rd – 6th rank)? WICKED, MYM, mouz and mTw would be those teams that would battle it out but WE, Go and aTTax still got chances. Serious, PGS and hoorai theoretically could do it as well but it doesn’t seem as if they would be able to.

Something unexpected and still interesting is the current state of MYM. They for sure got a great team with lots of good players but still are 2-4 in matches. This is not what they will have expected and worth taking a closer look.

First of all let’s calm down the MYM fans a little. The Makers had a tough first half, with matches against SK, BeT, WE, WICKED and mouz. Those matches have all been lost, except the one against WICKED where MYM managed to take 5 points from the currently third ranked team. This means that they will now face teams that are supposed to be easy to beat.
Nonetheless MYM is currently not doing as good as they are expected to. Losing to such great teams is okay but a team like MYM for sure has the aim for being the number one. But if you want to be the best, you can’t lose to your biggest competitor.


MYM - struggling but still with good chances.
So why did MYM lose their matches? The addition of Shy and Grubby made them looking stronger, but you can only seed four solo players per clanwar, so having world class players on the bench is worth nothing in their matches. The first 4 matches, MYM played without their superstar Moon. But since they won two out of these and a single player can’t win clanwars alone, this most likely isn’t the reason for their current performance. The reason for MYM’s current underperformance seems to be a mix of several things. Some players like Lucifer and FoCuS seem to not be doing as good as they did last season and next to this bad luck seemed to make MYM losing to BeT with a disappointing 1-4: All matches they lost ended up with 2-1 for their opponent.

Another team that has got a kind of surprising performance is WICKED Gaming. This time the surprise is a positive one: WICKED is ranked third with a record of 5-1. Unfortunately for them, they did not face SK and BeT yet, so there might one or two losses coming up in future. But on the other hand WICKED has got good players themselves and may be able to stop SK’s or BeT’s streak.

Short note: The top 5 players in the WC3L’s player statistics are SoJu, Who, ReMinD, SouthSea and Soccer. SK is clearly dominating the statistics as well, they got four out of five possible players inside the top 10 ranks. They are followed by WICKED and BeT with two players each. Mouz and Go are also inside the top 10 with ToD and Space.
