WCG07: Gold, silver and bronze

As Moon defeated XyLigan, he gives his nation Korea a better ranking in the WarCraft 3 WCG Hall of Fame. What may surprise the common reader is that Korea has actually only managed to snipe two medals over the years - one silver and now a bronze. Instead, it's China that's dominating the field.

SEATTLE. With Moon snatching the bronze medal after defeating XyLigan with a clear 2-0 result, the Korean is the fourth Night Elf player to end in the Top 3 in World Cyber Games history. Another medal will be given out to a Night Elf before this year's WCG is over: to Creolophus. Should he win he will be the first Night Elf to win the prestigious event. Former Night Elves to grab a medal are HoT (bronze 2006), Shortround (silver 2005), and EviscEratoR (bronze, 2003).

Korea, usually dominant in the world of Warcraft, is very low on medals in the World Cyber Games. Moon's bronze medal meant two medals in total. To find the only Korean player besides Moon in the list we have to go back to 2004, where we find Zacard taking the silver medal after losing to Grubby in the Grand Final.

China the WCG dominator

Instead of Korea, it is the nation of China that can boast with the most and finest medal list, much thanks to Sky's double gold medals in 2005 and 2006 of course. Adding those together with the silver medal ChinaHuman took in the first installment of World Cyber Games leaves China with three medals. Another one will be handed out by the end of the day. Whether it is gold or silver is up to Creolophus - should he defeat Sky.

The second best nation after China is actually Netherlands, with one gold and one bronze. Coming in close behind are France and Korea, with one silver and one bronze each.

Sky, ToD, ChinaHuman, Insomnia gives Human the lead

The racial distribution tells us that the Humans are by far dominant. A total of six medals have been handed out to Human players, while the Orc and Night Elf players are sharing the second spot with three medals each. Worth noting is that in the whole World Cyber Games history, no Undead player has entered the Top 3. Compare that to the Electronic Sports World Cup where Undeads as MaDFroG, Sweet, FoV and Lucifer have all been placed in the top.

In a couple of hours we will know whether Sky will score the WCG triple, or if Creolophus will give the Night Elves a boost in the hall of fame. Don't miss it for the world.
