Here's a suggestion: Credit for assisting Play of the Game

If you could change something in Overwatch, what would it be? You don’t always have to go big. Sometimes it’s the subtle changes that feels the greatest. In this series, we’ll go over some of the quality of life changes that could be made in Overwatch.

Current

The Play of the Game feature in Overwatch is a fun way to end games with. It features anything from amazing Dragon Blades to neatly timed kill-stealing. But how it currently works might be a bit unfair. A Zarya can set up a graviton surge, catching the entire enemy team, but then get her Play of the Game “stolen” by a D.Va ultimate. Sure, that great team work can still win you the game, but the poor Zarya never gets credit for her amazing timing.

Changes

To make it a bit more fair, there is a simple change to make: Add a text saying “assisted by…” under the Play of the Game intro. This way, a person that helped significantly to a PotG sequence can also get a little time in the spotlight for their effort.

Up- and downsides

If we start by looking at the upsides, the idea behind this change is fairly straightforward. It would make people’s gametime a little sweeter. It wouldn’t interfere much with the current Play of the Game layout, since it would only add a small text at the bottom of the intro. Acknowledging all aspects of the team as well as great teamwork, will only help the game.

If there would be any downsides to this, it would be at Blizzard's end. The engineering to make the assist might be complicated, or take time and resources that Blizzard can’t spare at the moment. They'd have to be able to calculate what player(s) had significant impacts in that specific play. Another thing to consider is how many people wouldn’t actually care about a change like this. But, the upsides should outweigh the downsides.

Although this change is the simplest way of making Play of the Game a bit more fair, there’s also other changes that can be taken into consideration. For example, a split screen play of the game sequence could be added when more than one hero are included in the play. Or, show both points of view after each other. These changes are more difficult to add though, since the downsides for them outweighs the upsides.
