Over the past weekend we saw quite a few tournaments in the competitive Overwatch scene. Don't worry if you missed some of the action, we got you covered with a recap of the tournaments and show matches that happened during that time!
Friday- King of the Watch Europe #4
The long weekend of competitive Overwatch started off on Friday with a Best-of-Seven King of the Hill show match between the reigning kings IDDQD and their challenger #FlatEarth. The series started off with a promising hold from #Flatearth on Kings Row, as it took IDDQD a grand total of 10 minutes and 13 seconds to complete their attack. After the side switch the current first in our GousGamers world rankings kicked into gear however, fullholding #Flatearth and depriving their opponents of any momentum that could have been built from their initial defense.

This proved to be the trend for the rest of the payload maps that were played - Hollywood, Dorado and Numbani – which were all won in fairly dominant fashion by IDDQD. In fact, IDDQD only gave away a single checkpoint in all their defenses. On Nepal however, #Flatearth showed what they are capable off, winning the map 2-0, making the final score 4-1 in favour of IDDQD.

Saturday - ESL EU Community Cup #4
Saturday started with another installment of the ESL Community Cup. Only 10 teams took part on the early afternoon hours, prominent participants being #FlatEarth, melty eSport Club, Arcane eSports and the newly formed Russian all-star lineup of Quake Fortress. Those four teams also made the semifinals, where #FlatEarth took a clean 2-0 win over Arcane eSports and Quake Fortress took a surprising 2-1 victory over melty.
A flank by Bromas on Soldier:76 sealed game 2 for #FlatEarth, stoppin all momentum Quake Fortress could of had.
The final again was a pretty one sided affair with #FlatEarth taking a 3-0 victory and winning the tournament without giving away a single map. In the third place decider we saw a close series between melty and Arcane eSports which melty took narrowly, edging out a 3-2 win and a third place finish with their new roster.
Saturday - GosuGamers EU Weekly #7
The GosuGamers Weekly lured out all European top teams to duke it out for the prizemoney once again and also saw mixup representing the North American server. The first surprise of the day was provided by the Russians from Quake Fortress, who participated under the name msh+6, as they took out Arcane eSports with a 2-1 victory, building onto their success in the ESL EU Community Cup. The team around George "ShaDowBurn" Gushcha then went on to face mixup, narrowly losing out with a score of 2-1.
On the other side of the bracket both #Flatearth and reunited.gg made it to the semis without dropping a map. When both sides met, #FlatEarth took a convincing 2-0 victory home and secured their spot in the final. The other semifinal was a tighter affair, as mixup took a map of IDDQD but couldn't close out the series to deny another all European final. In the final #FlatEarth significantly improved upon fridays' performance.

After a crushing defeat on the first map, Gibraltar, Rasmus "Draceus" Waern's of #FlatEarth regained composure and took home Kings Row without allowing IDDQD to finish the map. The third map, Numbani, again went into IDDQD's favour. The fourth map was Volskaya Industries and proved to be a true nailbaiter. With a time difference of only 2 seconds IDDQD took home yet another tournament victory with a series score of 3-1.
Sunday - GosuGamers NA Weekly #7
On Sunday the North American teams came out in full force with EnvyUs making their return to the tournament scene and Cloud9's first official appearance. Representing the European region were IDDQD, #FlatEarth, Ventus and Quake Fortress.
While the upper side of the bracket provided very little surprises with IDDQD and EnvyUs both making it to the semifinals in dominating fashion, the bottom side provided many: In a clash of the Quake veterans Tim "DaHanG" Fogarty's The Life of Hanzo took out Anton "cooller" Singov's Quake Fortress, who had a great showing in the cups the prior day in round one.
Cloud9 proved to be a too tough challenge for the newly formed team, as the favorites took a clear 2-0 win home. The second shock came in the fourth Quarterfinal with Prime sending #FlatEarth packing after winning a narrow series 2-1. In the semifinals, Cloud9 had a hard time with the suprise package of the day, Prime, narrowly winning 2-1 on their way to the final. The other semi-final was less eventful, with IDDQD dispatching EnvyUs 2-0 with only giving away a single checkpoint during the series.

In the final, IDDQD showed once again why they are currently considered the best team in the game by a mile: On the first map, Gibraltar, the European side only took 4 minutes and 5 seconds to complete their attack and thus winning the map despite a really good attacking effort by Cloud9, who made it to the third checkpoint. The remaining two maps were once again very one sided as IDDQD managed to fullhold both on Hollywood and Numbani, taking the final with a score of 3-0 and continuing their 30 game win streak.
