Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.2 livestream shows off new playable characters Seed and Orphie

Technically, four Agents join the roster in Zenless Zone Zero’s latest update, Version 2.2.

HoYoverse, the developer behind the popular action-RPG Zenless Zone Zero, has unveiled the game’s next big update: Version 2.2, titled “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.” This update adds new story content to the game like always, along with two Agents: Seed (and Seed Sr.) and Orphie (and Magus). Yes, there are four names here. We’ll explain in a bit.

Before we dive into all of the juicy details, don't forget to redeem the Version 2.2 livestream’s code for Polychromes and in-game resources:

OBOLSQUAD: 300 Polychrome, 30,000 Dennies, two Senior Investigator Logs, and three W-Engine Energy Modules.

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.2’s new Agents: Seed (and Seed Sr.) and Orphie (and Magus)

Both of Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.2’s new Agents are double acts. Seed is an Electric Attack Agent, driving around on a segway-like vehicle during combat when she’s not piloting her mech, Seed Sr. Seed synergises with other Attack Agents to bump up the entire team's sustained damage output.

Orphie & Magus make up a singular Fire Attack Agent. Attacking enemies with the EX Special Attack allows the Orphie to build up Bottled Heat, which serves as a key combat resource. Bottled Heat can place the entire squad into a Zeroed In state while hitting enemies, buffing up their attacks and allowing Aftershocks to ignore a portion of enemy defense.

There’s also Mercury, an all-new Bangboo who drives around a combat tank in battle. Mercury will join the Bangboo banner in Version 2.2. My personal favourite new Bangboo–Excaliboo–also arrives in this update. Before combat, this Bangboo will attempt to pull a sword from stone. If it succeeds, it gets a sword. If it fails, it picks up both the sword and stone, and swings them around like a hammer. You can grab Excaliboo through a new in-game event.

Seed and Orphie & Magus will also get skins in Version 2.2. In the first half, Trigger will get a re-run banner. In the second half, Evelyn will get a re-run banner. Soldier 0–Anby is also getting a buff to her kit, which is set to land in later version updates.

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.2's new story content

The story of Version 2.2 once again revolves around the Waifei Peninsula, and the ongoing threat surrounding the region. Wise and Belle have time upon time again dug into the mysteries of this region, and Version 2.2 will see them uncover a few more secrets. We’ll also see more of Obol Squad, thanks to the introduction of two more of its members to the playable roster. The main story will focus on Orphie and her connection to Magus, the rather grumpy–but protective–captain of Obol Squad.

Seed is also getting a TV schedule, entitled Floral Voyage Into the Unknown. Her story will revolve around her relationship with the mech Seed Sr., who went into a mysterious slumber some time after adopting her in equally mysterious circumstances.

All the events coming in Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.2

Band of Brave Bangboo: this top-down tower defense event lets players drop down Bangboos to fight against incoming enemies. Excaliboo will be available to redeem via this event.

Problem Soldier Boot Camp: Seed and Orphie & Magus can fight enemies in a closed arena in this wrestling-like mode.

Spotlight Showdown: a HIA event that has players engage with daily themed battles.

Rhythm Rave: the Phaethon will help Reverb Arena set up a rave with rhythm game-like minigames.

En-nah Treasure Hunt: players will help Wandererboo hunt down some treasure in this scavenger hunt event.

Wish Bottle Adrift: players can throw ‘wish bottles’ into the sea to gain rewards at Fantasy Resort.

As usual, daily check-in events will also be available for players to grab Encrypted Master Tapes and Boopons. Additionally, returning Advanced and Data Bounty events will be available for players to grind for double the resources.

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.2 quality-of-life changes

The temple management minigame at Suibian Temple is getting a few changes to make gameplay smoother during crafting and while navigating menus. The shortcut wheel is also getting expanded to let players have access to more actions immediately, and the fast travel function is getting simplified.

Trust events will now also allow players to choose whether they want to meet up with Agents as either Belle or Wise. In the character selection screen, players will also be able to hide Agents they don’t want to see. The display stand in the Phaethon’s room is getting expanded to support up to 20 collectibles.
