Super League and G-1 Finals collide in schedule

Both Super League and G-1 League have scheduled matches for the 24 and 25 May in Shanghai. Orange, iG and DK are affected.

G-1 League has announced it's offline finals on 26 April. Six days later on 2 May, the Dota 2 Super League followed with the release of their whole season schedule. Now there are matches to be played in DSL from 23 to 25 May, while G-1 wants to hold its finals from 24 to 26 May, both in Shanghai, but with an overlap of two days.

Concretely this affects three teams: Orange, iG and DK have been assigned to DSL matches on 24 and 25 May. Orange plays against LGD.int on Friday evening, DK against the same opponent on Saturday afternoon and iG has to face ForLove on Saturday evening in the Super League.

Orange, iG and DK have double obligations

G-1 at the same time wants to hold a six-team round robin with best-of-threes on those two days. This increases the amount of games to be played on those two days to six best-of-threes for Orange, iG and DK - along with a location change to a different studio within the same city. LGD.cn is not affected, because they are playing their DSL match on Thursday already.

To be fair: It could be possible for G-1 League to schedule around the DSL matches, but it's a really tight schedule then. Orange would have to play only two Bo3s on Friday and three on Saturday, while iG and DK would have to play the other way around. So far, teams and organizers are aware of the scheduling conflict, but no comment is given on any reaction by G-1 or DSL.

Super League thought about TI3-qualifier teams, but not about G-1

As DSL could be limited to fixed broadcasting dates, only a swap of play dates seems to be a viable option for them. They also have to think about the The International East qualifiers running from 20-26 May, in which four DSL teams participate. Vici Gaming, TongFu, RattleSnake and Rising Stars have not been scheduled into this week by DSL.

For G-1 League, if they don't manage to handle the issue with DSL or schedule around the DSL matches, a total reschedule of the finals would be the last option, which also turns out to be incredibly difficult: DSL does not provide a weekend without playdays for G-1 teams and after DSL is finished, in July the European tournaments will occupy Alliance and TeamLiquid with their finals.
