The last day of IEM Katowice culminated in a grand final of epic proportions. In a wonderful series First broke free of Dream's constrictive style time and again to claim the title and the $6,500 prize.
Antiga Shipyard is the first map where both players start off normally expanding to their natural and looking pretty even. First pokes up the ramp, is greeted by three Bunkers and backs away. A minute later Dream retaliates with a poke of his own yet First is ready with Sentries and force-fields. Dream continues to try and harass as he takes his third base. First gets his first Colossus out alongside Archons to fight off Dream's several Vikings and large bio army. The Terran seems overwhelming but First persists and drives Dream to a retreat. First pushes onwards into Dream's base and manages to push his lead into the his first win.
Game two on Cloud Kingdom starts with First putting up an engineering bay on Dream's natural denying it for a bit. First gets his Colossi and Dream builds up his bio with all the upgrades as the match moves into mid-game. Dream drops in First's base doing considerable damage. First invests in Colossi as Dream puts up a strong Viking force and jumps ahead with a 40 supply lead. As Dream keeps denying First's third base his advantage grows and finally First GGs as the series is tied.
Dream goes with some early aggression but can't get a proper hold with Bunkers and Marines. He does however punish First's early Nexus by taking away some crucial mining time. First puts down the Robo and Forge while Dream pushes the mid a bit. Playing his constrictive style yet again Dream finishes his upgrades and gets his third base behind a strong Medivac drop all the while scanning and getting those Observers at every point. Dream's drop goes directly for the Twilight Council taking out the building a second before charge research finishes. Ghosts and Templars with storm come on the map alongside Vikings and Colossi while Dream goes for his fourth base. First hides his own fourth and manages to land perfect storms against Dream's bio. In a huge fight in the middle of the map First again lands wonderful storms and gets a huge 40 supply lead which snowballs into a win.
First uses scouting Pylons to avoid marine run-bys from Dream as the fourth match starts on Daybreak. Dream once again cuts his SCV production just a bit to allow all his upgrades to finish and a big early force to come out and create his patented constriction strategy. First is used to the aggression and is prepared with great force-fields and his first Colossi. Both players continue normally taking their third bases at about the same time. First guards his base from drops as Dream attempts them once again. First goes for a fourth base with heavy macro play in mind and while trying to harass but First stays on top of him and surges ahead in a 30 supply lead. First sends Zealots to every base of Dream while going for a fourth base. Dream tries to hold on as First maxes out and pushes his advantage onward. With five Colossi in his army First goes in for the planetary and all of Dream's army finally sealing the deal and claiming the IEM Title!
