Both new maps are for two players and are coming straight from the Heart of the Swarm beta test. Akilon Flats (a.k.a. Akilon Wastes in beta), has players spawning a the opposite corners of the map, offering them a very standard natural but two options for a third base. The middle of the map is rich on choke points and grass lines and has two watch towers overlooking movement both across the center and towards the late-game expansions.
Newkirk District is perfectly symmetrical with players spawning on the bottom left and bottom right. Each side of the map has seven expansions, the by-ground access to which is easily defendable thanks to the two choke points in the center. As half of the middle line is crossable only by air, however, Newkirk District can easily see a lot of aggressive drop plays towards the bottom expansions.
