Goody quits EPS citing late payments by ESL

Sascha "Goody" Lupp has decided to withdraw from the ESL Pro Series, claiming that there is an issue with ESL's prize payments.

Goody-small.jpgThree weeks into the latest season of EPS, one of the big names in German Starcraft has announced on Facebook that he will leave the league. "Since ESL isn't paying any pricemoney [sic] i will quit EPS," he wrote earlier today. The terran player had a reasonable start to ongoing Winter 2012 season, but was eliminated from the most recent weekly cup in round one. He currently sits 5th out of 10 in the table.

This is not the first time that ESL have come under scrutiny for their delayed payment of prize money. Around the same time last year, Carlo "ClouD" Giannacco caused quite a stir when he raised this issue, but even he was not the first nor the only pro player to mention it. Several players chimed in in November of last year, complaining about slow or late payments from ESL, but the issue predated Starcraft II.

ESL's Michal "Carmac" Blicharz responded last year by explaining that ESL hosts a lot of tournaments and prize payouts involve a lot of paperwork. Further, he stated that sponsors tend to work with a 90-day system, which puts ESL in the same position. However, he said little to explain the extreme delays that several players have mentioned and was unavailable for comment as the time of this story being published.

There is no official statement from ESL yet, nor is there any further word from Goody himself. Why he chose today to bring up the issue is unclear, but what is clear is that ESL's problem is far from solved.
