Kerp: 'Usually we just pick what is best for us'

Alternate are the team of the moment, it seems, as Ecypsia interviewed another member of the German-based team.

Kerp may be new to Alternate, but as an ex-DotA player he’s been around for quite a while. Why the game swap, then? “I felt like waiting for DotA2, but it took its time,” said Kerp. “I didn’t feel like playing it anymore [sic].” He also admitted that he didn’t want to carry on with WC3 DotA because DotA didn’t get much attention after the news of DotA2.”

It’s no surprise that a player who’s been around the game since season one has tried out all the lanes. “I’ve played about every role competitively,” he said. “But I’ve realised that I prefer to play champions that can get rid of the enemy carries by themselves or keep away multiple enemies at once.” Little wonder that he prefers to play top lane bullies like Olaf and Jayce. But despite having his favourites, Alternate are a flexible team: “we aren’t bound to one composition of champions,” said Kerp. “Usually we just pick what is best for us”

What is best for them tends to revolve around mid-to-late game strategies, he told Eclypsia. He hopes that style of play can get them to their goal. “We want to be one of the best teams in the world,” he said. Recent results as Eloblade showed that they might just do that, and with the backing of Alternate their chances are only increased.

But on the way to the top, they will have to overcome the current crème of the crop – the season two finalists. “Moscow 5 and Azubu Frost are most likely to be in the top three,” said Kerp when asked about the finals. “I’m unsure about the others but I’d say that Team SoloMid will be at the top as well.” He believes that SK have an outside chance as well, adding “they have been doing very well during LANs.”
