The reigning champion triumphed over PvT mastermind Parting 2-1 and advances to the winners bracket final of MLG Winter Championship but his next opponent is a scary face from the past - MVP's monster zerg DongRaeGu.
With the PvT stats for both players gravitating around the 80%, it was expected for this match to be something different. However, game one ended up being more one-sided that fans would've liked it to be. PartinG opened with a two base 4-gate attack that both downed the marine count of the terran and deciphered the marine/tank timing attack that he was shooting for. Unmoved by this, MarineKing transitioned to a double e-bay and delaying his attack until 1/1 was done and there were marauders out. Once those were available, the terran moved out to set a contain onto PartinG, which evolved into protoss' death once MKP managed to climb the ramp and hurt Parting badly.
Game two, however, delivered the hype that was promised and even added a pinch or two of it as the late-game turned into a psi-storm galore. MarineKing seemed to have the mid-game advantage after his 2/2 upgrades made the difference a few times but the terran tasted the "chargelot blades or psi-storm burns" dilemma a bit too much and Parting entered the late-game with a strong lead. The storms kept raining upon MKP until he had 70 supply to Parting's 200.
As opposed to game two, the final set of the series ended quickly. Both players failed their scouting as MKP's SCV was pulled back an inch before actually scouting Parting's base while the probe was quickly shot down by a marine, leaving the two bases in utter darkness.
Chosing to avoid another late-game fiasco against a scary opponent such as Parting, MKP went for one of his signature builds - 1 tech lab/1 reactor rax rush with combat shield. Parting was completely unaware of the rush until it came knocking and his desperation sentry warp-in and the freshly-popped immortal could not turn the game around for him. Parting went down 1-2 and MarineKing went on to face DRG in a MLG Winter Arena revenge match.
