After being down two games in the grand final, DongRaeGu came out strong to sweep IEM Global Challenge New York with a 3-2 over FruitDealer. The MVP Zerg won $6,500 and a seed to the IEM World Championship in Hanover next year.
DongRaeGu's start at the grand final was not at all good, dropping the first set on Metalopolis to a muta/roach opening by FruitDealer and losing his hatchery early on Caverns to drop down to the dangerous 0-2 disadvantage.
Fortunately for DRG, he was able to win the roach war on Dual Sight after fighting off FD's fast pool build and play a brilliant next set on Skakuras, dropping FruitDealers drone count to 14 after a nicely timed multi-pronged baneling/mutalisk attack.
The final set on Shattered Temple saw DongRaeGu triumphing over his opponent with a crushing +1 roach push, brining him the first place prize money and the spot at IEM Hanover.
In the bronze final, Chilean zerg Killer managed to defeat Gatored to take the $1.7500. Gatored, who played the role of the upset-bringer at IEM NY defeating both DongRaeGu in the group stage and three-zeroing TOP in the Ro8, could not find the strength to defeat the Dignitas zerg and fell 1-3.
